Pamela Coming to My Neighborhood

03/20/2007 at 4:53pm EDT

imagePamela Anderson is up to some fun with former NHL players Russ and Geoff Courtnall. They’re all building a compound in Ladysmith, British Columbia, which is here on Vancouver Island. Only about 15 minutes from my own house in fact—perhaps I’ll haunt the place for an invite.

From Canada.com:

Sexy Canadian star Pamela Anderson said she is looking forward to splitting her time between Los Angeles and her hometown in British Columbia.

The 39-year-old actress is building a marina and compound with former NHL players Russ and Geoff Courtnall in Ladysmith.

“It’s a very sexy development,” Anderson revealed in an entry posted on her official Website on Sunday. “I’m so happy I’m building in Canada.”

What does that mean exactly, “It’s a very sexy development”? And are the Courtnalls part of The New Sexy?

That’s worrisome, but I’m still eager for an invite. It sounds like it has the potential be a female-version of the Playboy Mansion.

Wings-Canucks Liveblogging Tonight

PRE-GAME

Alanah, Paul and Bill (a.k.a. IwoCPO) will be doing a group

drunken

liveblog tonight of the Vancouver Canucks vs Detroit Red Wings game. Essentially, 2 Wings fans and 1 Canucks fan, sharing a great deal of highly inaccurate information as the game progresses.

It’s the final game of the season series tonight, hosted by Vancouver who currently holds the series advantage thus far with a 2-1-0 record versus the Red Wings. Six Canucks share the team scoring lead in games versus the Red Wings with three points each. Nicklas Lidstrom and Dan Cleary have each recorded three points against Vancouver this season to share the team lead.

So that’s the boring stuff. The important things to know are these: “The Sedins are Here to Pump You Up” and Mike Babcock says the Wings are on a “dry run for the playoffs.” And of course EVERYONE is afraid of getting hit by flying ladies undergarments.

What could be more fun than that? If you’d like to join us in the trash-talk, we’ll see you on this post at game time, 7pm PT/10pm ET.

St. Patrick's NHL VOTE

03/17/2007 at 12:05pm EDT

imageIf anyone would like to help settle an argument—I made the observation yesterday that Rory Fitzpatrick is CLEARLY the most Irish name in the NHL. I was surprised when Kukla promptly shot this down with “Forget that. It’s Brendan Shanahan! Don’t you forget it!” (Insanity.)

But what do you think? Is it Fitizpatrick or Shanahan? Or is it someone else altogether?

Who drinks the most green beer?!!

NBA Player Suspended for NHL Player's Hit

03/14/2007 at 6:11pm EDT

Gotta love the satirists… from The Brushback (via Sports Illustrated), here’s NBA Commissioner David Stern’s considered response to Chris Simon’s hit last week: he promptly suspended NBA player Stephen Jackson.

Stern defended himself today by saying he was merely “sending a message.”

“We have to send a strong message to our players that behavior such as this will not be tolerated,” said Stern. “Whether or not Stephen was actually involved in the incident is not important. The important thing is something bad happened somewhere, and we don’t want it to reflect negatively on the NBA. It’s a shame, too, because the vast majority of our players are law-abiding citizens, not thugs. But Stephen Jackson is a thug, and he’s probably hit several people with sticks in his life, so it’s not like he didn’t have this coming.”

The Mystery of the Vancouver Canucks

03/09/2007 at 2:36pm EST

Some fun from Charlie Teljeur on THN’s Loose Change today, confused as he is about the rise of the Vancouver Canucks this season:

It’s that whole Vancouver Canucks leading the Northwest Division thing that has me puzzled. How did that happen? As far as I’m concerned, they’re just one Italian guy and a trio of Swedes which, to me, sounds more like a cheesy adult film than a hockey team.

He also goes on to list “TOP 12 THINGS I DIDN’T KNOW ABOUT THE VANCOUVER CANUCKS”, including such gems as,

7. Microsoft Word will not accept the word Bieksa but will accept Beaks or Bikes

6. The Canucks’ logo is a whale breaking free from a tray of ice cubes

Bikini Night in Utah

03/08/2007 at 7:07pm EST

Courtesy of the ECHL’s self-promotion machine, I bring you this:

The Utah Grizzlies have announced that Wednesday, March 7 when they host the Bakersfield Condors, it will be “Bikini Night” at the E-Center. Face-off is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. “Bikini Night” is presented by Bevan’s Marine.

During the intermissions, contestants will go through various competitions with the top three winning prizes.

Apparently Jeremy Roenick wasn’t doing much, and was happy to participate in the celebrations. First prize, an America’s Next Top Model photoshoot:

Note: Sadly, I was just bragging to a friend how good I am with Photoshop. I hope he doesn’t pick today to verify that.
