A2Y- A Routine

01/19/2023 at 9:30pm EST

Good evening y’all. There have been plenty of articles to read about the Wings bad luck, or, the Wings floundering, so I’m not going to blather on about keeping it positive, or, that things will turn around in the not so distant future. Those things will happen eventually no matter what. If you’re here, thank you. The Wings are a part of a routine of sorts for some 19 of us, and an escape from things a million time worse than watching a hockey game. Good or bad.

It’s the Wings vs the Knights. The puck is set to drop around 10:00 PM ET, 7:00 PT, and will be broadcast on Bally Sports Detroit and the Red Wings Radio Network (97.1 The Ticket). Also available on NHLPP/ESPN+, TVAS, SN360, SNE, SNO, SNP, and ATTSN-RM.

A2Y- Bad Hockey Fatigue Syndrome

01/17/2023 at 8:30pm EST

Hiya to everyone and welcome. I see the long hockey sticks are out for the abysmal performance and record thus far. I don’t know what everyone is expecting. I’m going to give fans the benefit of the doubt, and let it go as bad hockey fatigue syndrome. Wings fans are really feeling it right now. Everyone is unhappy, upset, pissed off. Calling out Yzerman, questioning Lalonde( 4 months in). It took Yzerman 8+ years to see the final result after leaving his first gig as GM. Oh, and that was without a pandemic interrupting plans made. Remember, Yzerman rarely if ever shows his hand. It can’t be said that fans haven’t been surprised by his actions. I still gotta believe Yzerman will do whatever is indicated in order to win.

It’s the Wings vs the Coyotes. The puck is set to drop around 9:00 PM ET, 7:00 PM MT, and will be broadcast on Bally Sports Detroit and the Red Wings Radio Network (97.1 The Ticket in Detroit). Also available on NHLPP/ESPN+, and BSAZ.

A2Y- Jekyll And Hyde(Hide)

01/16/2023 at 2:30pm EST

A good MLK Day afternoon to all. After winning a couple of game against two good teams, the Wings had to blow it all up with the usual bad loss. The nature of this team is still in flux, and, anytime this kind of loss happens, it is a huge downer for Wings fans everywhere. The team has a Jekyll and Hyde(Hide) personality right now. One day they’re playing with the big dogs, matching up very nicely against them, the next outing it’s a completely different Wings team that comes out and looks really bad against a lesser team. So, enough of that…..

It’s the Wings vs the Avalanche. The puck drops sometime around 3:00 PM and will be broadcast on Bally Sports Detroit and the Red Wings Radio Network (97.1 The Ticket in Detroit). Also available on NHLPP/ESPN+, SN, SN360, and ALT.

A2Y- Consistency

01/14/2023 at 6:30pm EST

Hello to one and all. I am pretty sure there are 19 pleased Red Wings fans right about now, but, nervous nonetheless. The Wings pulled off what was a surprising win against the Leafs last outing, and we all want to see the same level of confidence, and, consistency. Well, these are the Wings we’re talking about here, so, anything can happen………

It’s the Blue Jackets vs the Red Wings. The puck drops around 7:00 PM, and will be broadcast on Bally Sports Detroit and the Red Wings Radio Network (97.1 The Ticket in Detroit). Also available on NHLPP/ESPN+ and BSOH.

A2Y- Staying With It

01/12/2023 at 6:30pm EST

Good evening and welcome to all. The Wings snapped the losing streak the other night in a high scoring affair that could have easily gone either way. I will say it was a fun game to watch. Seven different Wings scored, Seider picked up four points, which is huge, Raymond added a goal and two helpers for three points on the night, Walman is going pretty good right now, Berggren looks like he belongs, and props to the Wings not mentioned for staying with it till the last buzzer.

Tonight we face a Toronto team that we’ve not won against in three(nearly four) long years. The Leafs are for real, and, it’s going to take every body on the Wings, to a man, to break this particular streak. The Leafs are coming in on high after a win last night against the Preds, so that is going to make it just that much harder for the Wings to get the W.

It’s the Leafs vs the Wings in an Original Six matchup. The puck is set to drop around 7:00 PM, and will be broadcast on ESPN and the Red Wings Radio Network (97.1 The Ticket in Detroit). Also available on TVAS and TSN4.

A2Y- Show Up

01/10/2023 at 6:30pm EST

Hiya everyone and welcome back. The Wings are in the middle of a losing streak that needs to be snapped, and they have a three game home stand ahead. Some are saying their play of late isn’t horrendous, maybe not, but, losing really starts to wear you down, and, it’s not the way to keep fans coming back to watch games. The discipline, and confidence(scoring) needed to win is missing right now(and luck.) The Wings have to play the entire game like there’s only six minutes left. Show up and leave it all on the ice, every single game, ad nauseam……….

Bert’s back in the lineup tonight, Soderblom has been sent to GR.

It’s the Jets vs the Wings. The puck is set to drop sometime around 7:00 PM, and will be broadcast on Bally Sports Detroit and the Red Wings Radio Network (97.1 The Ticket in Detroit). Also available on NHLPP/ESPN+, and TSN3.

A2Y- Not Much To Say

01/07/2023 at 6:30pm EST

Hiya folks. There’s not much to say about the last couple of games so I won’t. The Wings faceoff against the Leafs tonight in Toronto which will be a very good game, or, a very bad game for Wings fans. I’ll leave it at that……

It’s the Wings vs the Leafs in an Original Six matchup. The puck is set to drop around 7:00 PM and will be broadcast on Bally Sports Detroit and the Red Wings Radio Network.(WXYT-FM 97.1) Also available on NHLN, CBC, SNO, SNW, and SNP.

A2Y- Restless Fans

01/06/2023 at 6:30pm EST

Hiya and welcome. Some fans are getting restless about the performance of this team as they struggle some nights, then play very well the next. The Wings are pretty much right where they should be right now. New coach and staff, quite a few new players, what should we expect? I know everyone wants to believe the Wings can make the post season, it’s not impossible, but, it’s not going to happen until the Wings stop being so easy to play against.

There are still some missing parts, and definitely missing experience. Right now we just have to watch, try to be patient, and trust that the powers that be, will/can coach this team to play with an edge, to stop being so damn soft, and to find a few more guys willing to play with an edge.

Tonight we’ll see Givani Smith’s return to Detroit in a Panthers uniform.

It’s the Panthers vs the Wings. The puck drops around 7:00 PM, and will be broadcast on

A2Y- A Busy Week

01/04/2023 at 6:30pm EST

Welcome back to one and all. The Wings are coming in on high after another big comeback win against the Sens on New Year’s Eve, and that’s kind of play that always brings us 19 Wingaholics back for more. Tonight the Devils come to town, and Wings are looking for redemption after the October loss to them.

The Wings get Fabbri back tonight which is good news. Nedeljkovic is in GR to get his game back, and, recondition his puck stopping skills, and Vrana has had his share of press time. It’s been a busy week for the Wings. I won’t expound on the Vrana situation because there are other place’s here to comment on that.

It’s the Devils vs the Wings. The puck is set to drop around 7:00 PM, and will be broadcast exclusively on TNT.

A2Y- A New Year’s Eve Tradition

12/31/2022 at 6:30pm EST

Hiya to all and welcome to the traditional Detroit Red Wings New Year’s Eve game. Once again the Wings find themselves in a spot that’s all too familiar. Coming off a game that they should have been able to garner at least one point from. Oh well, such is the way it’s been going.

There are lots of good things in the Red Wings future, so I prefer to go with that tack. Players that will be returning from injury, Vrana, Fabbri, Bert, uh, Zadina, could/should add some needed scoring depth up front, so Mr. Yzerman will have some tough decisions, or, possible trades coming up. We are still carrying three goalies, and truly I hope that Ned gets er’ going soon,(Nedeljkovic has been sitting since December 8th). In the New Year ahead, the Wings should be able to learn from past mistakes and improve, which means looking forward. What’s done is done, over with, and gone.

A Happy, Healthy, New Year to Paul, the Chief, the 19, and, to all who lurk and visit here.

It’s the Senators vs the Wings. The puck is set to drop around 7:00 PM, and will be broadcast on Bally Sports Detroit and the Red Wings Radio Network (97.1 The Ticket in Detroit). Also available on NHLPP/ESPN+, TVAS, and SN1.

A2Y- Show Up With Confidence

12/29/2022 at 6:30pm EST

Hiya and welcome to all. Thank you to the 19, for toughing it out yesterday when most fair weather fans would have bailed. I’m thinking about the epic comeback last night in Pittsburgh, and, hoping there were lessons learned. Games like that don’t happen very often for the Red Wings, and with that in mind, one would hope they come into Buffalo tonight fully prepared for what awaits them. The Sabres have had a long layoff, but, that doesn’t mean they’re not ready. They have won the first 2 meetings against the Wings this season, so I’m hoping the Wings have discarded the past, and show up with confidence tonight since they’ll be playing in back to back games against a well rested team that have won their last 4 in a row.

It’s the Wings vs the Sabres. The puck drops tonight around 7:00 PM, and will be broadcast on Bally Sports Detroit and the Red Wings Radio Network (97.1 The Ticket in Detroit). Also available on NHLPP/ESPN+, SN360, SNE, SNW, and MSG-B.

A2Y- Back In Action

12/28/2022 at 7:00pm EST

Welcome back everyone. I hope you all had a nice Holiday break and are safe and warm. The Wings are back in action tonight in Pittsburgh after a longer layoff than was planned. One can only hope that the time off will be a good thing for this team. They last played against the Lightning, and are hoping to build on that win. They will face off against a Pens team that are coming back to home ice after a loss last night, which IMO, makes them a harder opponent to play against.

Jakub Vrana was assigned to GR for 3 games to get back into form which is great news, so, here’s hoping for some more Holiday cheer for Wings fans tonight……

It’s the Wings vs the Penguins. The puck is set to drop around 7:30 PM, and will be broadcast on Bally Sports Detroit and the Red Wings Radio Network (97.1 The Ticket in Detroit). Also available on NHLPP/ESPN+ and ATTSN-PT.

A2Y- Trying To Stay Upbeat

12/21/2022 at 6:30pm EST

Good evening and welcome to one and all. I’ll just get right to it. The Wings blew a 2-0 lead the other night to extend the losing streak to 6 in a row. They were definitely out matched by a better team. Sure, there were some bright spots, but, the best part of that game was keeping Ovechkin from tying Gordie Howe’s record.(When playing against Howe’s team.)

Tonight the Lightning come to town looking for some pay back for sure. They come in after losing to the Leafs last night, but, that will only make them harder to play against IMO. I’m trying to not be a big downer here, but, it is what it is. Okay, trying to stay upbeat, there are positives here, somewhere. The Wings did win against the Lightning the last time we faced them, and, played probably the best game we’ve seen in a very long time. I’ll leave it at that…..

Stopping The Losing

12/19/2022 at 6:30pm EST

Welcome back to another LB. Tonight is all about stopping the losing streak the Wings have embarked upon, and, it won’t be easy a’tall. They are facing the Capitals in their own barn with Ovechkin looking to tie Gordie Howe’s record of 801 NHL goals. Mark and Marty Howe will be in attendance if #8 does in fact reach that feat.

I won’t dwell on the past 5 games because it won’t change a thing. I do think at times, well, most of the time, that the Wings have played above their real ability this season, and that makes for some exciting, enjoyable hockey. Even when they aren’t overachieving it’s been mostly fun to watch as well as entertaining, and so it goes. Such is the life of a Red Wings fan for the past 10 years or so.

Ville Husso will start again tonight, and, Jakub Vrana is still listed as day to day.

It’s the Wings vs the Capitals. The puck is set to drop around 7:00 PM, and will be broadcast on Bally Sports Detroit and the Red Wings Radio Network (97.1 The Ticket in Detroit). Also available on NHLPP/ESPN+, NHLN, NBCSWA, and SN NOW.

Hold On, Cross You Fingers

12/17/2022 at 12:45pm EST

Good day to all, and welcome once again to the LB. The Wings are not looking too good of late,(injury wise)and at the time of this writing, Larkin, Hronek, and Maatta are all game time decisions. They(the Wings)were manhandled the other night in Minnesota, which saw Hellberg make his first appearance in goal this season, and, with Soderblom scoring the only goal in his first game back. A bright spot for sure.

The Wings face off today against an Ottawa team that is coming in hot having won their last 3 games. Only 4 points separate these two teams in the standings, with Detroit holding a slight edge, but, that doesn’t necessarily translate into being equally matched on the ice. So hold on, cross your fingers, and hope for the best…

Vrana was at practice yesterday without an exact timetable for his return, but that is very good news for him and the Wings.

It’s the Sens vs the Wings. The puck is set to drop around 1:00 PM, and will be broadcast on Bally Sports Detroit and the Red Wings Radio Network (97.1 The Ticket in Detroit). Also available on NHLPP/ESPN+, TVAS, and TSN5.

Not Much To Say

12/14/2022 at 7:00pm EST

Hi to one and all. There’s not much to say since we were together only yesterday. The Wings were smothered last night in every way possible. They didn’t play horribly, they just couldn’t handle a really good defensive team that came to play. The positives are that it wasn’t a blow out, and they did hold their own. More growing pains for sure. The negative is we lost Larkin, but, this will become an opportunity for someone to step up and make the move to stay with the big club.

In other news, the Wings recalled Soderblom from GR and placed Maatta on injured reserve retroactive to December 6.

It’s the Wings vs the Wild. The puck is set to drop around 7:30 PM, and will be broadcast nationally on TNT, and can be listened to on the Red Wings Radio Network (97.1 The Ticket in Detroit.) Ken Kal and Paul Woods with the call. Also available on TVAS, BSN, and, BSWI.

Back At Home

12/13/2022 at 6:30pm EST

Good evening and welcome everyone. The Wings are back at home tonight to face the Hurricanes after a pretty good road trip. Husso has been playing his guts out, giving the Wings a chance to win every time he’s in the net. They grabbed 5 out of 8 points so there’s that. They had a good comeback game against the Stars, but, I think it’s a game they should have won. To me they let up on the gas in the third period, then Larkin stayed on the ice way too long in OT, turned over the puck, and the rest is history. Oh well…

In other news, the Wings recalled Magnus Hellberg from GR so we have 3 goalies now, and, D-man Steven Kampfer also got the call up.

It’s the Canes vs the Wings. The puck is set to drop around 7:00 PM, and will be broadcast on Bally Sports Detroit and the Red Wings Radio Network (97.1 The Ticket in Detroit). Also available on NHLPP/ESPN+ and BSSO.

A Matinee Game

12/10/2022 at 1:30pm EST

Good afternoon and welcome to all. Today the Wings will try to make up for the horrible performance against Florida. They just didn’t show up, and, for reasons no one knows, they do not play well in front of Nedeljkovic. The only bright spot was Berggren who scored the Wings lone goal as he continues to impress, and, improve.

Congratulations are in order for David Perron. Today marks game #1000 for Perron, quite an achievement especially in hockey, so the Wings have to make it a good one. To say he’s been real good for the team is an understatement. He is a wily veteran with a wicked shot and is proving to be a great addition to the Wings.

Take Nothing For Granted

12/08/2022 at 7:00pm EST

Greetings and welcome to all. The Wings are coming in hot once again after a big win against the Lightning, thanks in large part to Husso(28 saves in the 3rd period alone) to give Detroit the win. Four players scored for the Wings. Rasmussen, Berggren, and then both Erne and Perron with empty netters sealed it. It was one of the better games we’ve seen so far this season. Hronek continues to shine racking up the points and I’ll leave it at that because, superstition.

The Wings still need to figure out how to deliver more punishing hits, and, finish up on the checking in order to make it harder to play against them for the full sixty minutes, making any opponent think twice before coming after anyone on the team.

Florida is missing some key players, but, the Wings better not take anything for granted. The Panthers have had success against the Wings and they now have Matthew Tkachuk as well as two Staal brothers to contend with.

It’s the Wings vs the Panthers. The puck is set to drop around 7:30 PM, and will be broadcast exclusively on ESPN+ and Hulu. You can also listen to Ken Kal and Paul Woods on the Red Wings Radio Network (97.1 The Ticket in Detroit).

Under Pressure

12/06/2022 at 6:30pm EST

Hello and welcome to all. The Wings are coming into Tampa Bay after posting a win the other night against a team that hasn’t had the best of luck this season. That being said, they did have goals from four different players, and that should bode well for the team as a whole. Czarnik, Kubalik, Cool Hand, and Copp all scored. Copp is looking better and better each game, and Kubalik scored his team leading 10th goal.

Suffice it to say that the Wings haven’t fared very well against the Bolts lately,(well, they did win on 4/19/22) and this is the first meeting between the two teams this season. This is a homecoming of sorts for Coach Derek Lalonde, and here’s hoping he has some inside knowledge on how to beat his former team at their own game. The Wings will be under pressure tonight, so all the best to our newly minted Coach, his staff, and the Team.

It’s the Wings vs the Lightning. The puck is set to drop around 7:00 PM, and will be broadcast on Bally Sports Detroit and the Red Wings Radio Network (97.1 The Ticket in Detroit). Also available on NHLPP/ESPN+, BSSUNX, SNE, SNW, and SNP.

Back To Back

12/04/2022 at 5:50pm EST

Hi everyone, and welcome to tonight’s game. I missed last night’s debacle, just lucky I guess, and, I almost missed tonight’s tilt as well.

Anyway, from what I’ve read, it was a throwaway. So back to the drawing board, and fix the darn power play, and, play the full 60 minutes like it’s the last 6 minutes of the third period. We may not get the win, but we’ll get to watch something better than last night’s exercise in futility.

It’s the Wings vs the Blue Jackets. The puck is set to drop around 6:00 PM, and will be broadcast on Bally Sports Detroit Extra and the Red Wings Radio Network (WWJ Newsradio 950 in Detroit). Also available on NHLPP/ESPN+ and BSOH.

Showing Some Character

12/03/2022 at 6:30pm EST

Good evening and welcome to one and all. As we all know the Wings showed some character the other night to overcome a 4-1 deficit against Buffalo only to lose the extra point in OT. Berggren opened the scoring in the first period, but after that the Wings couldn’t get anything by Buffalo until the third.

Perron led the way in the top of the third, pulling the Wings within 2, then Sundqvist pretty much stunned with 2 quick goals to tie it up midway through the third period. A lackluster power play, including a 5 on 3 in the waning minutes, led to the OT which sealed our fate in the skills competition. Yeah it’s a point, but, cold comfort nonetheless.

Tonight is the last game in the 5 game homestand and the Wings need to end it on a positive note. Fixing the power play would be a good start….

It’s the Knights vs the Wings. The puck is set to drop around 7:00 PM, and will be broadcast on Bally Sports Detroit and the Red Wings Radio Network (97.1 The Ticket in Detroit). Also available on NHLPP/ESPN+ and ATTSN-RM.

Growing Pains

11/30/2022 at 6:30pm EST

Heya everyone. After a nice four game winning streak it’s back down to Earth with the loss the other night. It was a test of sorts, and the Wings(growing pains)weren’t completely ready for the Leafs. Husso was, in my estimation, a bit fatigued after playing three games in six nights. Conventional wisdom is to go with the hot hand, but whatever.

The Wings had their chances as well with 44 SOG, but, they just couldn’t find the back of the net enough to win it. Nedeljkovic came in about halfway through and stopped all 12 shots he faced, which should prove a good warmup for his starting in goal tonight. Another plus is Seider scoring, so more goals from our blue liners is still trending well for the Wings. It’s time to move on….

It’s the Sabers vs the Wings. The puck is set to drop around 7:00 PM, and will be broadcast exclusively on TNT. You can also listen on Red Wings Radio Network (97.1 The Ticket in Detroit).

A Good Test

11/28/2022 at 6:30pm EST

Good evening and welcome to one and all. The Wings have been on a roll of late, and while it’s been great for all Wings fans, tonight’s game is going to be a good test of how much improvement has taken place. The Wings have to be tough and play a hard, mean, punishing, leaving it all on the ice kind of game if they want to prove they’re for real.

The Wings are playing some of the best hockey we’ve seen in recent memory, so the Leafs will be a real coming back down to Earth kind of a game for all of us. Tonight the team will debut the Reverse Retro jersey. The jury’s still out on this one until I see it worn in a game.

Hronek is leading the way once again with other blue liners(Oesterle goal)contributing as well. Husso is the most important player on the ice IMHO, and Larkin is proving why he wears the C. The Yzerplan is looking pretty good so far this season with the signing of the veteran players that do show up every night ready to go. Things seem to be coming together with this group, but, I don’t want to jink anything so I’ll leave it at that.

It’s the Leafs vs the Wings in an Original Six matchup. The puck drops tonight around 7:00 PM, and will be broadcast on Bally Sports Detroit and the Red Wings Radio Network (97.1 The Ticket in Detroit). Also available on NHLPP/ESPN+, TVAS, and SN.

Exciting Hockey

11/25/2022 at 7:30pm EST

Heya everyone! I’m thinking we’re all still riding high after the last three games. The Wings have been not bad, and Husso has been very, very good in goal for us.(Stealing one on Wednesday.) He’ll be starting tonight as well. The Wings put in a solid effort in a game that could have gone either way against the Preds.

It’s probably one of the better all around games so far this season, with Husso backstopping, and Larkin and Hronek once again leading the way. It’s been exciting hockey for sure, with everyone pulling their weight, and it’s hard trying not to get too far ahead of ourselves.

I hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving and are still able to stay awake for tonight’s tilt. It’s Hockey Fights Cancer Night at the LCA, also known around here as the Pizzarena, and the Dough Joe.

It’s the Coyotes vs the Wings. The puck is set to drop around 8:00 PM, and will be broadcast on Bally Sports Detroit and the Red Wings Radio Network (97.1 The Ticket in Detroit). Also available on NHLPP/ESPN+ and BSAZX.
