The Third Time Is The Charm

11/13/2021 at 6:30pm EST

There's not much to say. Montreal is a team the Wings should be able to win against. I'm puzzled by how they have just fell apart against this team in their last two meetings.

Here's hoping the third time is the charm.....

It’s Getting Better

11/11/2021 at 7:00pm EST

One of the nicest things about this Wings team of late, is the lack of dread that used to proceed watching a game. Any game. Now, I'm not about to go crazy and start throwing out thoughts of Stanley, or even the playoffs at this point. What I will say is, it's getting better.

The fact that the Wings have been winning will do that. Even the losses aren't as spectacularly bad as they were before. Well, maybe a couple were. All in all we now have a few better players, younger players, which translates into exciting hockey, and much better outcomes.

I have no reason to be over optimistic, but, it looks like the Yzerplan is starting to take shape.

Three In A Row?

11/09/2021 at 7:00pm EST

Tonight's game should be another exciting event to watch as the Wings are going for three wins in a row. The Oilers are playing very well, and the Wings are playing some pretty good hockey themselves.

There's not much to say except, hang on to your hats, because I think this will be a real nail biter.

Die Hard Fans

11/07/2021 at 5:30pm EST

I have to say I'm as surprised as anyone that was watching last night's game, to witness the come back, and eventual win in OT. T-Bert who is still on fire, led the way, but the best was yet to come.

Seider's first NHL goal, a GWG, in OT. And it was a beauty! That's just one example of why I'll never turn off a Wings game.

To be honest, I've wanted to, many times, but, a die hard fan would rather die in front of the screen during a game no matter the score, than to turn it off and walk away. That's just the way it is. So here we are back for more.

All 19 of us, admitted Wingaholics.

No known cure.

Show Some Heart

11/06/2021 at 6:30pm EDT

I'm not going to bring up the Larkin dilemma. No reason to. The problem facing the Wings is their inability to step up and play at a competitive level regardless of who's in the lineup. We all know this is not the most talented group, but, they do have a few decent players that should be doing more, obviously, but after all is said and done, the players don't draw up the game plan.

The season began with a loss to Tampa Bay, but, it was an exciting game to watch nonetheless. Most games that followed, even when the Wings lost, were exciting. Fans could still say the effort was there, the guys played hard. That has come to a halt over the last five games. They've lost something, and it's more than just being without one of your top guys.

Good teams overcome, or, try to compensate when missing good players. It's a part of the game. It's planned for. This has to turn around, quickly. A win would help, but for now Wings fans just need to see some effort, some drive, some emotion. This team needs to show some heart.

Showing Up

11/04/2021 at 6:30pm EDT

This season is not going to be all puppies and fireworks as we've seen a few times already. Most fans know what to expect. The only thing fans are asking, is for the Wings to make an honest effort, and come to play.

You know, showing up and earning some modicum of respect from the people that are paying good money to be entertained. It's not rocket science, it's hockey. How hard can it be?

This Is A Test

11/02/2021 at 6:30pm EDT

Tonight the Wings face off against the Habs, a familiar rival that kicked our collective butts last time we played them. The team is without Larkin, our leader, and T-Bert, who is an impact player to be sure. It's only natural to think we're in way over our heads.

Be that as it may, this is a test of character, confidence, and coaching. We have players that need to step it up a few notches no doubt, and, tonight will provide an excellent opportunity for them to do so.

No matter the results, the Wings have to give it their all, and keep it close and exciting. Playing to win is what matters, regardless the outcome.

Keep Er’ Going

10/30/2021 at 6:30pm EDT

That's right. Keep er' going. The effort, tenacity, energy, and all around confidence. 19 fans have been pleasantly surprised since the beginning of this season. Losing is always disappointing, but, the Wings didn't give up. The did play very well against an 8-0 Panthers team. During one stretch, having the fans and broadcast crew going absolutely wild. They came back once again, and took it into OT.

More of the same solid play is hopefully on tap tonight, sans T-Bert. I get he's an impact player, but his absence shouldn't be a make or break in order to play well. The Wings have to prove they can play just as well without him in the lineup. That's what the really good teams do.

Gearing up for another exciting night of Red Wings Hockey!

Confidence Is High

10/29/2021 at 6:30pm EDT

After the surprising win the other night in DC I would venture to say that confidence is high right now in the dressing room, on the bench, everywhere. The Wings pulled off an upset win over the Caps, and showed a lot of character coming back after being down two-zip.

They dug deep, and, played some hard nosed smart hockey. Larkin scored the OT winner, and is showing with every shift why he wears the "C" The improvement over last year is palpable. The youngsters are playing like they belong, but most importantly, the Wings are winning games, which will build anyone 's confidence.

Now, they need to keep er' going. We don't expect miracles. We do expect the same effort we've been witnessing so far this season.

Here's to some more exciting Red Wings Hockey!

Larkin Leads The Way

10/27/2021 at 6:30pm EDT

Tonight's game is against another tough opponent. Any time you face the Caps you know it's no cakewalk. The ever present Ovechkin is going to be more than enough for this young team to deal with. Also there's former Red Wing Anthony Mantha in the lineup. This time around imma hoping for a lot more floating.

The Wings are coming off a win against a Cawks team that has had a bad start. Not to diminish the win at all, but, as all 19 of us know all to well, in the recent past we would've folded against the Cawks. This time around, with Larkin leading the way, we handed them a loss. And it felt great!

Last time I checked, Hronek is back in the lineup, so I'm hoping for a good all around showing from him. Let's hope Raymond continues on his path of being in the right place at the right time (Hattie!), T-Bert still being on fire, as well as the youngsters(Seider) still playing big minutes and being good at it.

It sure feels good to be excited for Red Wings Hockey once again!

A Classic Matchup

10/23/2021 at 6:30pm EDT

Ah yes. Tonight's game features a classic matchup between two Original Six teams. Detroit vs Montreal. It's always exciting whenever these two storied franchises face off against each other.

I'm expecting the winless Habs to throw everything they have and more at this young Wings team. We had better be far more prepared than we were the other night. Just sayin......

Excitement Is In The Air

10/21/2021 at 7:00pm EDT

Red Wings fans have been unexpectedly surprised at the huge differences between last season and this year's team. Tonight will be only four games in, but, I think it's safe to say excitement is in the air, along with some pretty decent hockey being played right now.
We all know there is still a long road ahead, but, this young Wings team is certainly fun to watch. I say, keep er' going boys!

The Flames are coming in cold, looking for their first win of the season, and, we all know they've burned us plenty in the past few seasons. Here's hoping the youngsters cans douse the Flames tonight.

Enjoy The Moment

10/19/2021 at 7:00pm EDT

If there's one thing to be said about the Wings this season, it's that they're fun to watch again. Not boring, not slow and old, and not the inevitable feeling of dread that we've all come to know in the last few seasons. These games are actually entertaining, and exciting.

Larkin is back in the lineup tonight, T-Bert is on fire, and, the youngsters are really putting on a good showing so far.

Yes, there is plenty of room for improvement, and that will come in time, but for right now let's just enjoy the moment, and have a good time. I do realize it's only game three in a long season, but, bring it on!

One Game In

10/16/2021 at 6:30pm EDT

There are many positives to take from the Wings first outing this season. Six goals scored, plenty of action, fast paced. T-Bert had a great game. D-Boss scored the first goal of the season to get it started, then was nailed from behind by a nasty, dirt bag hit.
The youngsters looked very good as well. We all know what happened after Larkin got hit so no need to go into that.

That being said, the Wings are only one game in, in a very long season which Wings fans hope will be very entertaining, and most likely exciting. Game two tonight. I'm all in.

Welcome Back!

10/14/2021 at 7:00pm EDT

Welcome back to all! I hope all is well, and, the 19 have had a peaceful Summer. It's been far to long since we've had much of anything to be excited about, but, that's about to change. The new season is finally upon us with actual youngsters aboard. Whooda thought? Eh?

We know not to expect miracles. We know to expect rookie mistakes, which will be forgiven, but, the addition of Seider, Suter, Raymond and a few other new faces have made this season something to look forward to.

One of the many objectives for the "Yzerplan" is to bring this team to some form of respectability this season while providing an entertaining game to watch. Here's to the 2021-2022 Detroit Red Wings!

Hope for the best.....

With so many games packed into this preseason it's getting to be somewhat monotonous. Just two more to go, so, hang in there, and thank you to all for being here. T-Bert returns to the lineup tonight, so there's that......

The Youngsters

10/06/2021 at 6:30pm EDT

Wings fans everywhere are pretty upbeat about this young group, and, wondering who makes the cut. With just three games to go in this pre-season we're about to find out. We're all pulling for Raymond to make the big club along with Suter, and Seider too.

I'm pulling for the goaltender Brattstrom, who's slated to be the backup in GR. He was born the year the Wings won the Cup in 1997.

With quite a few good players in the pipeline, IMHO, this season could very well be something to be excited about.

The youngsters. Finally.....

Three In A Row

10/04/2021 at 7:00pm EDT

Three games in a row does seem like a bit much even for the most dedicated fan, but, here we are. With any luck the up side is getting to see the kids play a lot, finding out who's going to make the cut, and, as someone pointed out, hoping the tie DOES NOT go to the veteran. Yeah, right......

4 Games In 5 Days

10/03/2021 at 11:45am EDT

The Wings have looked very solid this Pre-season, and, as a superstitious fan I don't want to do anything to jink this. None the less, this young Wings team has played with confidence, and, played to win. I see no reason to think today will be any different.

To be sure, I'm definitely not predicting a win, just another solid showing in spite of the early start today, and, having to play 4 games in 5 days.

Pre-season Back To Back

09/30/2021 at 6:59pm EDT

After the come from behind win last night I would dare to say, it felt great. As for tonight, we know the Wings don't usually do all that well playing two days in a row. Hope for the best, plan for who knows?

This roster will have some new faces, so, competition will/should be the motivating factor to secure spots for the regular season. It may be a back to back, but, I'm expecting a good game.....

It's Time For Red Wings Hockey!

09/29/2021 at 8:00pm EDT

Welcome back to the 19, and to all who wish to join in this first LB of the (pre) Season, and for the rest of the season as well. It's been an interesting summer for the Red Wings and their fans. The old guard have moved on. New faces, familiar faces, and trusting in the Yzerplan, will hopefully make for some good, solid improvements and watchable hockey this year.

Tonight's game starts at 830p ET, will be joined in progress after a 7pm game on NHL Network. It is also on WWJ radio.

Drop the puck! It's time for Red Wings hockey!

Sixty Minutes To Go

05/08/2021 at 6:30pm EDT

To begin, I would like to thank Paul Kukla for giving us a home, and our Chief, Bill Houlihan. He is A2Y. Most of all, I would like to thank all 19 of you loyal Wingaholics that show up for game after torturous game. It's a wonderful thing that through think and thin, the 19 have stuck together here at A2Y. To say this season has not been the best season of Red Wings hockey would be a gross understatement. We all pretty much knew going in what to expect this year, and true to form, the Wings performance was as anticipated. There were ups and downs, but, that's okay, because it seemed to even out during the end of the season.

One upside was acquiring Jakub Vrana, Richard Panik, and draft picks at the trade deadline from the Caps, in a surprising trade for Anthony Mantha, who was once considered part of the "core", and, the rebuild. Who said trades are hard?

Vrana continues to impress, making this deal look all the better. We have been able to watch some of the youngsters, who, going forward, will be a part of this team. Veleno, the most recent, looks good. We don't know yet who will be back as far as some of our familiar guys that have been on the team for years. So for now, the Yzerplan seems to be on track, but, only time will tell.

This one's for you, Mom.

For the next sixty minutes, its a Live Blog!
