And now the opposition gets hard.

Yup. Newsy usually says that you gotta come home with as many points as games. That means theyve gotta win 2 of the next 3. Thats a daunting task given the caliber of the next 3 teams.

I feel like this one slipped away a little bit. Good game for a hockey fan, but the Wings let up 2 easy goals.

Next four games, at Carolina, at Florida  at Tampa and NYR.

5 out of 8 points is the minimum.

Giving up easy goals has been the norm for this time over the year. Chris Osgood and Larry Murphy are saying how games like these will help create a playoff team in the future, or just whistling while walking past the grave yard.😏

from Kevin Allen of Detroit Hockey Now,

When the Detroit Red Wings led going into the third period this season, they won 88.9% of the time. They were 24-3 in that situation coming into Tuesdays game in Washington. They understand how to hold a lead.

Thats why the 4-3 overtime loss to the Capitals comes with regret....

We knew how important the two points were tonight, Detroits J.T. Compher told Bally Sports. I think wed love to have a little better start to the third period, but again we showed the resiliency to get that thing to overtime. Kind of a coin flip a bit for that second point, but we did what we needed to do to bounce back and get to overtime there....

Detroit coach Derek Lalonde said afterward that the analytics will support the idea that the Red Wings should have won that game.

I think were still building it up after the tough stretch we had, Compher said. I thought we generated a little more offense tonight with the structure still being there. Still some things to clean up. A little better puck management. Its still getting better but theres still room for improvement obviously to get the results we need.

This is not the first time he's said something like this, and it drives me nuts.  We don't need moral victories here, this isn't peewee hockey.  You lost.  You played like garbage in OT.

All these UFAs, with Holl and Sprong being often scratched, millions of

dollars wasted, Showtime Kane and they still can't beat a team that has

Ovechkin as their leader, who can barely skate anymore?

They should have just continued the rebuild, there is no gain in drafting 15th or 14th or whatever.
