from Kevin Allen of Detroit Hockey Now,
Detroit Red Wings general manager Steve Yzerman thought he would be sifting through a “thin” goalie market this summer when he searched for someone to pair with Ville Husso next season.
But with the possibility that Winnipeg’s Connor Hellebuyck and Philadelphia’s Carter Hart could be traded, it is starting to feel like it might be a buyer’s market for goaltending. San Jose Hockey Now reports that the asking price is high end for Hart. The Flyers says they are not shopping Hart, just listening.
Plus, Nashville Hockey Now is reporting that the Kings and Predators talked trade for Juuse Saros last spring. Discussions were halted by the Predators’ demand for two first-round picks and other assets.
Yzerman has always said he would consider move that improves his team, but it seems doubtful that he would give up the assets necessary to land a bigger name goalie.
But one goalie that the Red Wings might consider became available this week when it was announced that Jonas Johansson is not playing for Farjestad in the Swedish Hockey League. He played three games for the Colorado Avalanche last season.
from Sportsnet,
There certainly appears to be a feeling around the league that its much more likely DeBrincats gonna get traded than not, Friedman said Tuesday.
DeBrincat, a restricted free agent, is due a new deal following the expiration of the three-year, $19.2-million pact he signed with Chicago in 2019, which saw him count for $6.4-million against the cap. Friedman noted that at the core of DeBrincats uncertainty around whether he wants to sign long-term in Ottawa is the clubs in-flux ownership situation.
Hes not signing at least for long term until he understands who the new owner is going to be and what the plan is. And were not gonna know that any time soon, said Friedman.
So, if the winger does in fact see his signing rights traded, whos interested? Friedman highlighted two teams: The Detroit Red Wings and St. Louis Blues.
I had one guy say to me, Thats a Doug Armstrong player. Thats a guy that Doug Armstrong would want, he said. So, those are some of the teams that people are kind of focusing on. Obviously, I think theres a ton of interest.
more rumor/signing talk...
Wings need to make a push to get him in Detroit. He's a Michigan guy - it shouldn't be hard to convince him. He is a top 6 player this team is lacking.
Two first round draft picks to get him (my guess) and$9M/yr for an under sized scorer? I'd pass.
capfriendly says qualifying offer of $9M. That would be above Larkins pay, not that that is a determining factor. If he wants to see what the objective of the Ottawa ownership is he should know that Yzerman is trying to build a winning club here. He may want a club more likely to be a contender than he would being around home in Detroit.
At 57 that goes in the opposite direction of building a bigger stronger front line, but that was a factor why people didnt want to draft Cole Caulfield, who Montreal just inked for big money. Wings need goal scoring.
While Husso faded in the late season, in fairness he spent most of the year bailing out a defense that was out of position much of the time or left him stranded. Eventually the main hatchway had to give in.
from Kevin Allen of Detroit Hockey Now,
Detroit Red Wings 2022 first-round draft pick Marco Kasper is creating a buzz this summer. Detroits fan base is probably most excited about seeing him in this falls training camp.
But Team 33, an independent pro scouting company used by some NHL teams, still views defenseman Simon Edvinsson as the Red Wings top prospect.
Team 33 ranks players based on algorithm that analyzes players by assigning point values to them based on a number of factors, including in-person scouting. Some NHL teams use Team 33s system to evaluate potential trades. Team 33 even assigns values of future draft picks based on several factors, including the strength of the draft class.
