from Ansar Khan of Mlive,
“For most of the year we’ve played pretty solid defensively up to this point. I think we will just watch some tape, learn from our mistakes and play better defense next game.”
The Red Wings jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first period. The Jets cut their deficit to one three times, including late in the third period (5:05 remaining) on Mark Scheifele’s power-play goal.
Lucas Raymond said maybe a little panic crept in during the third period and that he was “a little nervous” up until he scored into an empty net with 1:20 remaining to put his team ahead 7-5.
“This was a big game for us to win,” Raymond said. “It felt really good walking away from here with a win.
“We didn’t play our best game. We’ve lost games where we’ve played a lot better. To be able to get a win when we’re not top performing is huge. We’re just going to try to build off of this.”
The Red Wings scored only four goals in their previous three games and Lalonde questioned whether coaches put too much emphasis on offense in practice and meetings.
“Maybe shame on us for getting away from the defensive side a little bit,” he said. “But I liked some of our hard goals. We were hard to play against for a goalie tonight. Not a lot of volume for us but good volume.”
Below, watch the extended highlights.
Im glad it isnt just me. I thought they were really lucky not to give up more goals. And Hellebuyck wont give up that many goals often. The Jets have to be thinking that theyd win a game like that 9 out of 10 times.
The philosophy of giving up few goals seems to have gone out the window.
They were extremely lucky to win that game, way outplayed, way outchanced, how many posts did the Jets ring? You'd like to say Husso won it but he also gave up a ton, I agree with you, its more of a case that Hellebuyck lost that game, and that doesn't happen often, that's hockey sometimes though
