Raymond Is NHL Rookie of the Month for November

From the NHL Public Relations @PR_NHL

NEW YORK - Detroit Red Wings left wing Lucas Raymond, who led all rookies with five goals, seven assists and 12 points in 14 games, has been named the NHL's "Rookie of the Month" for November.

Raymond, who was selected fourth overall in the 2020 NHL Draft, edged Red Wings teammate Alex Nedeljkovic (6-2-1, 2.24 GAA, .934 SV%) Anaheim Ducks center Trevor Zegras (4-5-9 in 11 GP), New Jersey Devils center Dawson Mercer (3-6-9 in 13 GP), Toronto Maple Leafs left wing Michael Bunting (3-6-9 in 14 GP) and Boston Bruins goaltender Jeremy Swayman (5-2-0, 2.30 GAA, .914 SV%) for the honor.

Raymond found the scoresheet in nine of his 14 November appearances, including a trio of three-game point streaks: Nov. 4-7 (2-3-5), Nov. 13-16 (1-3-4) and Nov. 20-27 (2-1-3). The 19-year-old Gothenburg, Sweden, native registered his first career three-assist performance Nov. 6 at BUF and scored his first career overtime goal Nov. 27 vs. BUF, making him the second teenager in Red Wings history to accomplish the latter feat - after Steve Yzerman on Oct. 26, 1983, also vs. BUF.

Raymond, who joins teammate Moritz Seider (October) as a "Rookie of the Month" winner this season and is the only rookie who currently leads his team in scoring, tops NHL rookies in goals (9), assists (t-12), points (21) and power-play goals (3) through 23 total appearances in 2021-22.

The Red Wings are the first NHL team with different "Rookie of the Month" winners in consecutive months since the Toronto Maple Leafs in December (Auston Matthews) and January (Mitchell Marner) of 2016-17.

Thanks, Kate.

It’s an 82-game season about four more months of the grind of an NHL season.  Let’s see how well both Seider and Raymond (and by extension, Nedeljkovic) can sustain this kind of excellence.

IF the Wings miraculously make the post season, it will be the real test of their talent and skill:  how badly do they want to win in the playoffs?

I agree. Time will tell, but right now it’s exciting and fun to watch how these rookies are giving the Wings a huge boost. The entire team seems to feed off the youngsters energy. I know how dismal the past few years have been so any improvement seems monumental.

Lets Go Red Wings!!!!!

Whether they fade out over the course of a long season or not. I am just STOKED to have a team worth watching again! It’s been a minute…..

Thanks Kate for the posting.
Yzerman’s early draft picks, he says it’s all the scouting team, are turning out well so far, and they’re still young.  I’ve wondered what the two rookie skaters would say is the biggest adjustment to the NHL - physicality, size of players, grueling unrelenting schedule (which they’ve really not experienced the full extent yet).  something else.

We can only measure them on what they’ve done so far and so far the trio has been excellent. The team doesn’t need to make the playoffs for their rookie campaign to be an overwhelming success. If nothing else the team is a lot more entertaining to watch with them in the lineup.

Right now I’m a bit torn. I want them to continue to play well but I’d really like Yzerman to have ONE more chance at a top 5 pick. Will Yzerman feel obligated to hold onto tradeable assets (ie Nemestikov, Staal, Griess) if the Wings are in the playoff race?

I’ll take it.  Whatever they’re doing to get better, I’ll take it.  Yzerman said he wanted drivers this season.  It’s so nice to see that many guys wanting it.
