During the early afternoon, my mind will wander.
It will wander to the majesty of Darren McCarty's knee cap and what it must have sounded like when that knee cap made violent contact with Claude Lemieux's face twenty years ago. Repeated, violent contact.
My mind will wander to the pulpy mess of blood left on the JLA ice as Lemieux wobbled to the dressing room.
Glimpses of flying Shanahans and little Mike Vernons, each of them attacking Patrick Roy (now jobless in case you didn't know) from different angles and for different reasons.
McCarty again, finishing the game and starting a run (you know, one of those "runs" Jeff Blashill mentions from time to time).
Wondrous memories of that day and what followed in the weeks and months and years to come.
