KK- Ice Storm

02/22/2023 at 8:21pm EST

added 6:57am on 2/23/23, still no power and starting to get cold.

Have been without power for 3 hours and it looks like it could be some time for it to be restored.

I'll keep you posted.

Sorry to hear Paul. The Eastside is not too bad. The ice is sticking to the tree branches and power lines but it's looks light. The sidewalks and roads are only wet.

Pretty bad on the west side of the state. Trees are covered in ice and snap and pop under the weight of the ice. The wind is supposed to pick up which should bring down most of them

Ice is pulling this little tree right over. The Charlie Brown Christmas tree. The big trees are really drooping as well. The constant snapping and popping means I am going to be doing yard clean up for a while probably

Sorry Paul, when its freezing cold the loss of power rapidly becomes much more than just an inconvenience.  Hope you can stay warm somehow.

DTE- We estimate that 95% of customers will be restored by Sunday, February 26

I heard the same, and that they will not give out updates for any specific neighborhoods, only the above statement.  I am sort of in the same boat, but I just jury rigged a generator to my furnace, couldn't hold out anymore.

I'm hearing that what makes these outages difficult vs. other issues is that the both lines and trees are weighted down and there could be problem areas in multiple spots on a run.  So unlike a blown through storm where a tree/wind/pole/ caused it to be disconnected and there's clear cause, fix and go, they have to inspect entire runs to ensure there are not multiple problem areas.

I've had offers going to tough it out here. Bernie the African Grey needs company.

Sorry, Boss.

We get a few snow flurries here in Vegas and the town goes apeshit.

Praying for you in our nightly Rosary.

Kate

That really sucks Paul. I hope youll be okay. I wont tell you the temp down here..

I feel for you, Paul. Here in GR, we dodged a bullet. But three years ago this month, we weren't so lucky. Power was out for 68 hours and it was down to 34° in the house by the time it came back on. I bailed for the car at about 64 hours when the inside temp was 38°. And I too stayed because of my pet.

It was shocking to stand outside and hear the sound of huge limbs breaking off of the trees in my back yard and crashing to the ground. Our thoughts are with you.

Get a time and date for your repair by going to the consumers outage map like I posted earlier. Google for need help finding it. Find your neighborhood on the map and click on it and it will give you an estimated time of repair.

Paul

Been doing that since 630pm yesterday, this morning it says 95 percent by Sunday evening. I've used it before but this generic term used to be more precis.

One idea is if you have a gas grill outside you can make a big pot of hot soup which helps raise the core temp as you eat it.
