The Hardest Way Possible

12/23/2023 at 6:30pm EST

Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and welcome to one and all. Tonight the Red Wings finish the second half of a back to back on the road. The Devils are lying in wait, with an earlier taunt on social media. Something or other regarding a “Chicken Wheel.” Oh well, a reference to being soft isn’t new around here, as we say it all the time. Yes, the Red Wings managed to finally win one, and, it was two points the hardest way possible. Dylan Larkin wasn’t going to lose this one no matter what, and, Patrick Kane was the shootout hero. As of around 5:00 PM I still don’t have info on who’s in goal,(Hutchinson ?), or, if Edvinsson is playing.

Update: Hutchinson is in net. Edvinsson is on the ice in the pregame warmups.
Update: Edvisson is playing.

It’s the Red Wings vs the Devils. The puck is set to drop around 7:00 PM and will be broadcast on Bally Sports Detroit and on the Red Wings Radio Network 97.1 (The Ticket in Detroit) for your listening pleasure. Also available on NHLPP/ESPN+ MSGSN, and, SPORTSNET+.

“Happy, happy Christmas, that can win us back to the delusions of our childish days; that can recall to the old man the pleasures of his youth; that can transport the sailor and the traveller, thousands of miles away, back to his own fireside and his quiet home!”-Charles Dickens

Merry Christmas, and Happy Holidays to Paul Kukla, the 19, all Lurkers, and, to our esteemed founder, Bill Houlihan, and, to all of their families.

The Bad Wings

12/22/2023 at 6:30pm EST

Good evening and welcome to all. We’ve all watched the Red Wings lose four games in a row, and, 19 fans are not happy at all. What else could I possibly add?

Perron returns tonight, Reimer gets the start in net, and, as of this writing, nothing certain about who’s sitting.

It’s the Flyers vs the Red Wings. The puck is set to drop around 7:00 PM and will be broadcast on Bally Sports Detroit Extra and on the Red Wings Radio Network 97.1 (The Ticket in Detroit). Also available on NHLPP/ESPN+, NBCSP+, and SPORTSNET+.

No Expectations

12/20/2023 at 7:00pm EST

Good evening and welcome to everyone. I really have no expectation’s tonight. Until the Wings stop playing the soft game nothing changes. Even before this unfortunate rash of injuries hit, the Wings have been pretty soft to play against. The level of skill on this squad is right up there, so, we’ve been scoring lots of goals, but when you lose those top guys, the team still has to find a way to win. Losing three games straight isn’t the end of anything, but, it has to stop before the snowball becomes an avalanche. As of this writing, Reimer is scheduled to start in net, Hutchinson is back-up(one-year, two-way contract for the remainder of this season), Czarnik has been recalled from GR, Kostin is on IR, Maatta is sitting, and no update on Perron.
Edit: Maatta is in.

It’s the Red Wings vs the Jets. The puck is set to drop around 7:30 PM and will be broadcast on Bally Sports Detroit, and on the Red Wings Radio Network 97.1 (The Ticket in Detroit) for your listening pleasure. Also available on NHLPP/ESPN+, and SPORTSNET +.

An Early Christmas Gift

12/18/2023 at 6:30pm EST

Good evening, and, welcome to one and all. Red Wings fans got an early Christmas gift of sorts, as Dylan Larkin, the absolute heart of this Red Wings team, returns to the lineup tonight, so, maybe now we can get back on the winning side of things, and, work on helping Kane fit in.

Yes, the chemistry isn’t quite in sync yet, but, we all knew going in that Kane was not signed to “take over”, and, he’s been honest about a timeline to get back to game form. Both sides are taking a chance/gamble here. The Red Wings are taking a small risk for a big gain if it all works out. Let’s get on with it. Husso starts tonight, Reimer is back up, Maatta is listed as the healthy scratch, which could change, Czarnik is back in GR.

It’s the Ducks vs the Red Wings. The puck drops around 7:00 PM and will be broadcast on Bally Sports Detroit Extra, and on the Red Wings Radio Network 97.1 (The Ticket in Detroit) for your listening pleasure. Also available on NHLPP/ESPN+, BSW, and SPORTSNET+.

The Bounce Back Game

12/16/2023 at 6:30pm EST

Good evening everyone, and welcome to all. I’m hoping this will be the bounce back game tonight, as long as the Wings play with a hardened resolve, and, aggressive forechecking. No soft Wings tonight, as they have their work cut out for them in Philly. Both teams have similar records, but, the Flyers have won the last three in a row against the Wings. That has to change.

We’re looking to see a couple of players back tonight which should help. Compher and Kostin have been activated, and, Aston-Reese and Berggren are back in GR. As of 3:00 PM Lyon is supposed to start in net, and, the aforementioned players (Compher-Kostin) are supposed play tonight. Also Holl is listed as a healthy scratch. This may change before the puck drops.

It’s the Red Wings vs the Flyers. The puck is set to drop around 7:00 PM and will be broadcast on Bally Sports Detroit Extra, and on the Red Wings Radio Network 97.1 (The Ticket in Detroit) for your listening pleasure. Also available on NHLPP/ESPN+, NBCS, and SPORTSNET+.

That Is Improvement

12/14/2023 at 7:00pm EST

Good evening and welcome back to all. The Red Wings came up with a win the other night, and once again, it was the kind of game we’ve lost in the past. That is improvement, and when you consider we’re missing Larkin, and three forwards, it’s more like a miracle, and a real morale booster. Today we go up against a Canes team that just won as well. We haven’t fared very well against them lately, so, it’s time. Dare I say, confidence is high? I do.

Husso gets the start, and, Larkin, Compher, Kostin, and Perron are still out, with Compher expected to be back within another game or two. No word on Perron’s appeal as of this writing.

It’s the Hurricanes vs the Red Wings. The puck is set to drop around 7:30 PM and will be broadcast/streamed on ESPN+ and Hulu, and on the Red Wings Radio Network 97.1 (The Ticket in Detroit) for your listening pleasure. Also available on SPORTSNET+.

Back To Back

12/12/2023 at 7:00pm EST

Good evening and welcome to all. It’s the second half of a back to back, so, it’s going to be another tough one tonight, but, oh well. We’ll all just hope for the best, and, plan for the worst. Missing four forwards is very unfortunate, but, an opportunity for whoever can exhibit leadership, and confidence. Meaning, every player out there has to step up their game. There’s nothing more to add.

As of this writing Lyon is supposed to start in net, and, Larkin, Compher, Kostin, and Perron are out.
Edit: Husso is in.

It’s the Red Wings vs the Blues. The puck is set to drop around 7:30 PM and will be broadcast on ESPN, and on the Red Wings Radio Network 97.1 (The Ticket in Detroit) for your listening pleasure. Also available on SPORTSNET+.

We Drew The Short Straw

12/11/2023 at 7:30pm EST

Good evening and welcome to all. I don’t want to start out on a negative note, but, there’s no denying the Wings are in for a bit of turbulence. We drew the short straw. That’s the nice way to say it. What happened to Dylan Larkin is the very definition of the term “headshot “ and then some. WTH? The league didn’t see fit to do the right thing once again. That’s the truthful way to say it.

Anyway, the list is long, Larkin, Compher, and Kostin are out. They’re all on IR with Larkin gone for at least a week. Just in, Perron got six games. Reimer is in net and he needs to be huge. Berggren, Czarnik, and Aston-Reese have been recalled under emergency conditions. Now the bright side. At least we have Patrick Kane. 😉☘️

It’s the Red Wings vs the Stars. The puck drops around 8:00 PM and will be broadcast on Bally Sports Detroit, as well as on the Red Wings Radio Network 97.1 (The Ticket in Detroit) for your listening pleasure. Also available on NHLPP/ESPN+, BSSWX, and SN+.

Fix It Now

12/09/2023 at 6:30pm EST

Good evening and welcome to all. The Wings managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory once again, so it’s not the first time. What’s going on? Calling out the entire team for starters, for blowing another lead. Every coach in the league has watched our team collapse, and knows by now that they have a chance to come back and win, no matter how big of a lead is up on the scoreboard. Fix it now.

Alex Lyon gets the start in net, and, Compher is still out.

It’s the Senators vs the Red Wings. The puck is set to drop around 7:00 PM and will be broadcast on Bally Sports Detroit, and on the Red Wings Radio Network 97.1 (The Ticket in Detroit) for your listening pleasure. Also available on NHLPP/ESPN+, and SN+.

Our Newest Detroit Red Wing

12/07/2023 at 6:30pm EST

Good evening, and welcome to all 19 anxious Wingaholics. A rousing, and much anticipated welcome to Patrick Kane, and, all the best to our newest Detroit Red Wing. We all know that Kaner makes his debut in the Winged Wheel tonight, as that has often been the subject since he signed with the Red Wings. Hopefully he will have a positive impact, and, still maintain his own reasonable expectation of the level of play that sustains a player of his skill and experience. He’s not your typical veteran signing. I will say, it’s all a bit exciting, and, I am sure we’ll all have plenty to say during the game, and for the remainder of the season.

Okay, so much for that. The Wings are coming in hot tonight, and, the Sharks are coming in hot tonight as well, by getting an OT win on the Island last night. We all hope for a tired Sharks team that can be taken advantage of, but, this tilt has all the makings of a typical TRAP game. Compher is out and listed as day to day. Husso gets the start.

It’s the Shark vs the Red Wings. The puck is set to drop around 7:00 PM and will be broadcast on Bally Sports Detroit, and on the Red Wings Radio Network 97.1 (The Ticket in Detroit) for your listening pleasure. Also available on NHLPP/ESPN+, NBCSCA, and SN+.

The Hard Way

12/05/2023 at 7:00pm EST

Good evening once again, and welcome to all. We all witnessed the “lay back and try to sit on the lead” option last game. And it stunk. The Wings have a tendency to do that even with the meager one goal lead, let alone a substantial lead. They did win, but gave away a point in the process, and that crap has got to stop. I guess they have to earn the two points the hard way.

Tonight the Wings shuffle off to Buffalo to face another team that is salivating for a win, and is a divisional opponent, so the points are important. Lyon gets the start in net, and, any other pertinent pregame information is hard to find of late. Sorry 19.

It’s the Red Wings vs the Sabres. The puck is set to drop around 7:30 PM and will be broadcast on ESPN+ and Hulu, and on the Red Wings Radio Network 97.1 (The Ticket in Detroit). Also available on SNE, SNO, and SN+.

Payback Is In Order

12/02/2023 at 6:30pm EST

Good evening and welcome to all. The Wings are coming into tonight’s game after an uplifting win, and, the Habs are coming in off a loss the other night, so they’re looking for trouble. The last time we faced Montreal they won in OT, which means payback is in order.

Larkin is back, Husso is slated to start in net, and, Berggren has gone back to GR.

Don’t Let Up

11/30/2023 at 6:30pm EST

Good evening and welcome back to all. Last night the Red Wings were shown how much more work every player needs to put into winning games. They weren’t horrible, but, they let up. Simple as that. All the negative crap they are handed just has to be played through. That’s where we miss Larkin’s leadership and will. Someone has to fill that role for at least a game or two. Settle it on the scoreboard. Tonight the Cawks are in town, and I don’t care how bad they look on paper, this team always brings their A-Game to town. Plus, Connor Bedard.😉

Yeah, it’s back to back games for the Wings. Lyon is in net. As of this writing, we’re being ghosted on information about Gostisbehere and the rest of the lineup.

It’s the Blackhawks vs the Red Wings in an Original Six matchup on Hockey Fights Cancer Night. All In

11/29/2023 at 7:00pm EST

Good evening and welcome to all. Tonight the Red Wings will face off against a very good Rangers team that are coming off a loss the other night, so, an angry team awaits. Larkin is out and is listed as day to day. As of this writing , Holl is questionable, Walman should be ready to play, and, Berggren is in. Husso gets the start. Everyone has to be all in, and, step it up tonight.

A lot has happened in the last twenty four hours. Patrick Kane is now a member of the Detroit Red Wings. Until we can see what he will bring to the team, there are plenty of threads to discuss it on, and, during the game as well.

Take Nothing For Granted

11/26/2023 at 12:30pm EST

Good day and welcome to all. There are 19 Red Wings fans feeling okay right now, but, this is the kind of game that makes us all cringe. The Wings are flying high with confidence, and the Wild are struggling, which makes for a very dangerous opponent. So, the good guys in the Winged Wheel had better be well prepared, because this game is not going to be a cakewalk. Take nothing for granted. Lyon will get the start in net. Walman is out, and is listed as day to day.

It’s the Wild vs the Red Wings. The puck is set to drop around 1:00 PM and will be broadcast on Bally Sports Detroit, and on the Red Wings Radio Network 97.1(The Ticket in Detroit) for your listening pleasure. Also available on NHLPP/ESPN+, BSN, BSMW, BSWIX, and SN+.

The Matinee

11/24/2023 at 12:30pm EST

Good afternoon and welcome to all. The Red Wings and the Broons are both coming into today’s matinee game off of wins, with Boston looking for payback since the last meeting between the two clubs. There is not much to be said, as we all know that there is bad blood between these two clubs. Although Husso got the W against the Broons last meeting, he did let in some stinkers, but, the Wings clawed their way back for the win. As of this writing, I don’t know who will be the odd man out today, or, who is in the net.

It’s the Red Wings vs the Bruins in an Original Six matchup. The puck is set to drop around 1:00 PM and will be broadcast on Bally Sports Detroit, and on the Red Wings Radio Network 97.1(The Ticket in Detroit). Also available on NHLPP/ESPN+, NESN, and SN+.

There’s No Place Like Home

11/22/2023 at 6:30pm EST

Good evening and welcome to all. The Red Wings left Sweden as well as some valuable points across the Atlantic, and, there’s no place like home to get back on track. Both the Devils and the Wings are coming in off losses, but, it’s the Wings that should be carrying the bigger chip on their shoulders, and be the team that wants this win more. But, whatever. We all know by now, that nothing is as it appears. Lyon gets the start. Kostin is out.

It’s the Devils vs the Red Wings. The puck is set to drop around 7:00 PM and will be broadcast on Bally Sports Detroit and on the Red Wings Radio Network 97.1 (The Ticket in Detroit) for your listening pleasure. Also available on NHLPP/ESPN+, MSGSN2, and SN+.

Global Series-Sweden, Game 2

11/17/2023 at 1:30pm EST

All right. Good day and welcome to the 19, and, to all Detroit Red Wings fans everywhere. We all saw another horrible start yesterday, and, there is no getting used to that. The good news was the comeback, but, that well is going to dry up at this pace. The goaltending is questionable at best with all spots open IMHO, so today the long awaited start for Alex Lyon has finally arrived, and he deserves a chance to prove himself. It’s definitely a trial by fire, but, desperate times call for desperate measures. Holl is playing. Petry is out.

The Red Wings and the Leafs have similar records so far this season, on paper. So, here’s to hoping for a heck of a better start, and a better outcome today in Sweden.

No Expectations

11/11/2023 at 12:30pm EST

Good day and welcome to all. I guess it’s safe to say expectations are back to normal. That way, doing nothing, would be considered an effort.

Hang Tight

11/07/2023 at 7:00pm EST

Heya and welcome to all. The Wings are coming into the Garden after yet another comeback win against a very good team. Probably unexpected, but, this Wings team has pulled off a few comebacks this season, largely due to Dylan Larkin showing the way as the Captain. It’s slowly but surely becoming a culture of playing hard to win, which gives us all something to look forward to. Not that sinking feeling we’d all become accustomed to. So hang tight, cause the Rangers are playing some good hockey as well.

Fabbri is back tonight, and, Larkin is a game time decision.

A Roller Coaster

Good evening and welcome to all. So far this season has been a roller coaster of sorts. Up and down, down and up, and they’re still trying to figure things out. Hey, we all knew that going into the season. Hopefully we’re in for a fun filled wild ride tonight with the Broons in town, so let’s get on with it. The Wings have their work cut out for them. Nothing more needs to be said.

Enthusiasm And Uncertainty

11/02/2023 at 6:30pm EDT

Good evening and welcome to all. With an unexpected comeback on the Island, and the subsequent win in OT, our Wings surprised many fans. We will be expecting more from this group of players as we get further along in the season, but, let’s not get ahead of ourselves.Tonight we take on the Panthers, and they will be looking to get it back together after their OT loss to the Bruins on Monday. We’re all getting a bit more comfortable with the direction of the Red Wings, but, it’s still too soon to let go of the nagging uncertainty we face every game. We all know better. Petry is out tonight.

No More Sugarcoating

10/30/2023 at 6:30pm EDT

Good evening and welcome to all. The Wings are coming off a very disappointing loss for the fans. I don’t want to hear, “start on time”, or, “200 ft game”. Forget the cliches. No more sugarcoating. They looked bad, amateurish, and totally out of sync on Saturday. Toss it.

The upcoming game tonight is against the Islanders, an opponent that is a good club, and, this Red Wings team absolutely needs to show up. Enough said.
