Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y. Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation. There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that.
Lalonde tells the media lineup decisions for Friday will be made after tomorrow's practice.
Sonny's response is great. I am wondering how different his skating will look from last year if he is totally healed. For lumbering around last season with his injuries he did a good job of getting into the correct position
from Ansar Khan of Mlive,
Finishing above .500 in points percentage for the first time since 2015-16, their most recent playoff year, should be a minimum goal for a team that went 32-40-10 last season.
To get there, here are five keys for the Red Wings:
Defensive improvement
This is far and the way the biggest key to success, or at least significant improvement. The Red Wings finished second-to-last in the league with their worst goals-against average (3.78) since 1989-90 (4.04). A handful of blowout losses skewed that number, which should be much closer to 3.00. New coach Derek Lalonde has been constantly stressing better defensive habits, imploring all players, especially the younger ones, to play on the right side of the puck and not cheat for offense. The defense should be better with the addition of veterans Ben Chiarot, Olli Maatta and Robert Hagg. In goal, Alex Nedeljkovic needs to be more consistent, and Ville Husso markedly better than Thomas Greiss was last season.

Hopefully the defense is much better. That is the key to a successful season.

I wonder how long it'll take Derek to figure out that Hronek on the PK is probably a huge mistake...
