added 12:30pm, below watch Zadina after the skate plus a Sights and Sounds video from opening night.

Sigts and Sounds from opening night

from Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press,

"It’s a tough loss with Fabbri also out, two top-six guys, arguably two first-liners," Lalonde said. "But that is why you have the depth. Steve had a very good offseason and he wanted to have some depth. I like our lineup despite who is out, and that is a credit some more depth than Detroit has had the luxury off in the past."...

"It’s an opportunity and I’ll try to do my best, and I’ll try to play hockey the way I did during preseason and camp," Zadina said. "I’ll just go and prove that I am a good player. I just have to keep the positivity I had during the preseason. Nothing really changes for me. I just want to be the best player on the ice."

from Ted Kulfan of the Detroit News,

Not having Bertuzzi is a definitive loss, but Kubalik could soften the sting.

"He's a finisher," said Lalonde, of what the Wings will miss. "His goals, that line can win the zone battle. He had some good defensive shifts and he's had a good buy-in (to the new coaching staff and schemes).

"When Bert got hurt Saturday, we used Kubalik up on that line and they did some good things."

from Ansar Khan of Mlive,

“I’ll try to do my best and just play hockey the way I played during the preseason and during the training camp,” Zadina said. “Glad for the chance and I’ll just go and prove that I’m a good player.”

Zadina felt he played well in camp and the preseason.

“I played hard and did some good things,” he said. “Just got to keep that positivity I had in the preseason. I want to bring it to the regular season.”

Lalonde said Zadina must manage the puck better, limit turnovers.

“He showed me a couple of videos of what I’ve done and it’s the little things I can get out of my game,” Zadina said. “Nothing really hard for me to do.

“I had a little bit (turnovers) last year when I tried to do more than what I was supposed to. That’s pretty easy to get out of my game and just focus on the right things and play the right way. I don’t think it’s going to be a big problem for me.”

Good luck Z.  You don’t seem to have a problem talking up a good game.  Confidence is good but you’ve apparently got some things to clean up on the ice.

fivethirtyeight odds makers rate the Wings the biggest jump in rating point over the first week of the season, but still come in at 24th.  Good to get two wins, but the teams they beat rank 30 and 31 in their ranking system.  Still, it’s better to beat the bad teams than to get beaten up by them.

All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that.
