After 20 minutes the Penguins were up 3-1. The Wings were very sloppy in their own end multiple times and it cost them dearly. Plus allowing 2 goals in the last minute and a half did not help.
Pittsburgh scored early in the second to make it 4-1, Detroit scored late to make it 4-2. But the Pens scored very late to make it 5-2 after forty minutes.
The Wings added a power play goal in the third to make it 5-3. Then the Pens added an empty net goal to make the final 6-3.
Detroit goals are below.
losing 8 of the last 9 games says it all.😝
Pathetic. Blow it all up
Not that this is Lyons fault, but time to give the net to Reimer.
Larkin is clearly critical to the success of this team. Blaringly obvious on both special teams and with Copp and Veleno on the ice with the goalie pulled at the end of the game.
I wonder if a coaching change is possible at this point in the season?
Well, luckily for the Wings the Islanders and Caps also lost yesterday, so they've got that going for them.
They've got to get this figured out ASAP. And they also can't rely on Larkin to come back and make everything balanced and better, because he'll end up pushing too hard only to have to go out injured again.
I can't watch this dumpster fire of a team any more. It's one thing to get beat. It's another to get consistently outplayed when their season is on the line. This wouldn't be the latest a coach was fired, perhaps it is something Yzerman should ponder. But if he was going to do that I think it would have already happened.
The Wings look tired, confused, and disorganized. They don't move up ice as a group, opting most of the time to try long stretch passes that either miss or leave the guy getting the pass all by himself.
And Rasmussen and Veleno each have the hockey sense of a rock. Throw Copp in there too. And what the heck Yzerman saw in Holl that caused him to give the guy a three-year contract is beyond me.
At this point, the odds of Kane wanting to sign with Detroit this summer are just about zero.
