It's getting real bad folks.
Detroit had two power plays in the first period. They finished with five shots in 20 minutes.
Columbus had two goals on twenty shots. 2-0 after twenty minutes.
In the second period, the Wings scored 2 goals early while the Blue Jackets went scoreless in the period. 2-2 after forty.
Columbus was up late 3-2 but with 13 seconds left, Raymond scores to force overtime.
Showtime in OT, Wings win 4-3.
Detroit goals are below.
Our fate is out of our hands. We're a point ahead of WAS and three ahead of NYI but they both have two games in hand on us. The Wings have their work cut out for themselves.
Other than SJS we have the worst last 10 game record in the entire NHL. That's not good!
Still in our hands as we play the Caps twice and the Islanders on Thursday, but if we play like tonight, we have no chance.
I just love optimism, and you are correct too, which makes it even better! :-)
The schedule is WICKED for next 3 weeks.
Washington's schedule is worse:
I see 10 losses
btw: Detroit will have 2 full days off before the 1st game against @Washington as they play Nashville on the 23rd (early Sat start). They both have 1 day off before their 2nd game (slight advantage because Detroit is at home the prior game too).
The caps 2 day break is between Boston and traveling to Buffalo, but then they have a back-to-back 2 days later and another to end the season.
Meanwhile Detroit also has a 3 day break between their April 1 game @ TB and their home game April 5th vs NYR.
----------
The NYI schedule is not much better:
I see 8 losses
If Detroit continues to play the way they have been over the last 11 it's not going to matter. But if they get Larkin back and stop falling behind early they have the best shot given their lead. The NYI game could very well determine the last playoff spot.
Looks like Washington schedule is indeed brutal, but Islanders have a bunch of winnable games and tomorrow game is indeed crucial, but I am not so sure if we can consider Devils, Pens and Sabres definitely out of this. And Flyers despite their big win yesterday are not guaranteed to hold on to a third place in their division.
Detroit's last two goals.
Longer version of the OT goal.
I know they won but that first period was one of the worst first periods I've ever seen any red wings team play. Given the situation and the opponent, that's just ridiculous. Lalonde needs to go. Let one of the assistants take over for the rest of the year.
I keep wondering if Yzerman would be bold enough to fire Lalonde and take over the head coaching duties himself. I highly doubt that would happen but it would make it interesting.
Kane says he saw the goalie leaning on the OT goal.
Helene basically asking, "why don't you guys just play better all game long???" Love it. Everyone's thinking it, I think it's funny she said it.
A short one.
Sounds like players are to blame. Perhaps a more realistic appraisal that includes the coaching staff would be more honest. Blashill took a lot of flack because of the poor finishes (they were 5th worst in GA in 1st period his last year, 14th in 2020 but last in 2nd and 3rd, 6th best in 2019 but 2nd and 3rd worst in 2nd and 3rd, 16th best in 2018 and same in 2nd but 6th worst in 3rd).
This is a theme, Blashill didn't have talent and they started well but fizzled late in games. Now, they have some talent and they still give up a lot and start poorly too many times (8th worst GA in 1st period, 8th worst in 2nd period, and 10th worst in 3rd) but score a lot more this year (best in OT, 14th in 3rd, 7th in 2nd, and 16th in 1st for 6th overall).
Lalonde disappoints me. :-(
This is the angriest Lalonde sounded ever even using the word quit.
I was at the game and left with 5 minutes to play in the third period. I must have brought them luck when I left. 😉
My hero. :)
