Detroit's Identity Line Gaining Traction

03/22/2024 at 7:55am EDT

from Bob Duff of Detroit Hockey Now,

Copp scored twice, his first goals in 21 games. Fischer would open the scoring with a dynamic breakaway tally. He was good for three points. With Rasmussen dishing a pair of assists, the trio combined for seven points.

It wasn’t merely that they were setting each other up. In the process, they were setting a tone for their teammates.

This Is Red Wings Identity

That unit forechecks like fiends. They thrive in matching up with top players from the opposition and grinding them into the ice surface.

“We all have similar mindsets and obviously three big bodies,” Fischer said. “Obviously doing some matchups with other lines. The three of us, we love that type of thing.

“It’s the game within the game if you could shut down those big boys amd make life hard for them. I think we’re just on the same page.”

Thursday, that was the front page. Following a scoreless opening frame, Fischer would finally put a crooked number up on the scoreboard. Breaking into the clear down the left wing, he cut to his forehand and slipped the puck past the outstretched glove of Islanders goalie Ilya Sorokin.

Below is the Eastern Conference Playoff picture as of this morning.

SportsClubStats now has the Wings with a 69.7% of making the playoffs.

That may seem high because the next five games for the wings are absolutely brutal.  but like I said yesterday, every team on the bubble is capable of flatlining for several games so the competitors may not run up a bunch of points either.

Opponents for the next 5 games all on the road are +85 over .500 for the season.

THEN they come home to play NYR who are only +26.

If they are still close after that they finish with six games to make up points.

Ken Kal pointed oot the difficulty of these last twelve games a few weeks ago.

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y. Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation. There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that.
