The Detroit Red Wings will have seven prospects competing in the World Junior Championship, including five for Sweden.
Final rosters were announced Saturday for the tournament, which runs from Dec. 25 to Jan. 5 at Rogers Place in Edmonton.
Right wing Lucas Raymond, Detroit’s fourth overall pick in this year’s draft, will be a key player for Sweden. He had two goals and two assists in seven games last year on Sweden’s bronze medal-winning team. Raymond is playing for Frolunda in Sweden’s highest men’s league, where he has five goals and seven assists in 21 games.
Theodor Niederbach, selected 51st overall, might be centering a line with Raymond, his Frolunda teammate. Niederbach isn’t playing much on the men’s team (no points in 10 games) but has been dominant on the junior-20 squad (13 goals, 22 assists in 19 games).
