Will be interesting to see what Steve can get for him after the season and if he can crack the lineup wherever he lands.

from Ansar Khan of Mlive,

We just talked about (playing) eight quality periods, so a little rhythm of our lines, Lalonde said. Id probably put (Daniel Sprong) in that same boat. Both Spronger and Berggren can produce some offense but the rhythm of our lines right now, weve played some really good team hockey right now, so I think its more about what the group is doing thats keeping them together.

Berggren has appeared in 12 games this season with the Red Wings (two goals, four assists).

Berggren leads the Griffins with 19 goals, 27 assists and 46 points. He has a six-game points streak.

The Red Wings have opted to keep Austin Czarnik for now because he slots into the fourth-line center spot and provides checking and defense.

Confident team game down the middle, Lalonde said of Czarniks play. Unfortunately, we went through a stretch of playing (Christian) Fischer out of position. It creates some chaos in our lineup. (Czarnik) gives us reliable minutes.

As many have mentioned Berggren is a likely trade candidate in the future. 🤨

from Ted Kulfan of the Detroit News,

With coach Derek Lalonde using James Reimer in net the two starts previous to Lyon's return Saturday, Lyon used the time to tweak parts of his game as any goalie will anytime but also keeping the right mental frame of mind.

"There's tweaks every day, it's a constant development process," Lyon said. "It's just the nature of it. It's unfortunate (the slump) and I hate it but it's the strain that a goalie goes through and I just try to keep the same mentality and keep positive.

"It's very difficult but those are the important things. You're going to change your game all the time, you're going to be tweaking the way you feel, how is my body feeling, how is my brain feeling, my emotions.

"But the most important thing is to continue to fight and keeping that fight and energy is vital and that's what my main focus was."

Lalonde felt the right decision for Tuesday was to return with Lyon, who looked much like he did earlier this season when taking over the starting goaltending job.

"We've had very competitive goaltending in this recent stretch, had some success, and it has a little to do with our improved team game," Lalonde said. "(Saturday) might have been one of our better goaltending performances in a long time, is what he (Lyon) gave us in Nashville.

"We're going to go back with him and piggyback on his performance."

from Kevin Allen of Detroit Hockey Now,

Young defenseman Simon Edvinsson is making it hard for the Detroit Red Wings to return him to Grand Rapids by getting the job done in big games with playoff implications

(Its) hard, but hes done a good job, Detroit coach Derek Lalonde said. Even the other night (against Nashville), we asked a lot of him. Couple mistakes, which are going to happen, just some growth. He kind of followed a turnover north that put us in a bad spot. Little things like that are teachable. What hes doing out of our zone, how hes defending, really positive for him. We talk about our team game improving of late and hes been a big part of it.

Edvinsson played 18:19 for a Red Wings team that played one of Detroits better defensive games of the season, although the team fell 1-0 on a late third period goal.

Well take that (team) game every single time, Lalonde said. Just gave up a handful of chances. Obviously, you limit that team to one goal against, we didnt turn the puck over. It was one of our better game management games. We didnt give up any odd-mans. We gave up where they came out of the box, a little bit dangerous two-on-one, that was it. Thats playoff-type hockey. Its tight hockey. I just liked our approach.

Lalonde said Edvinsson just needs to continue to minimize his mistakes.

When they do happen, we communicate it, Lalonde said. This team of year, our team video is important, reps are important, but I think a lot of what we do, especially in the situation of growing his development is the one-on-one type of video, called shift tape. This morning might be the most important thing for him to watch back his game, talk it though, what hes thinking here, what was his thought process here, what did you see here. Very raw growth in the development stage.

more on the Wings...

I wish Lalonde would quite commenting about Edvinsson with disrespect.  "A couple of mistakes" he made in the NSH game?  His lovefest with vets must include a public blindness to their "mistakes".  Do I want Lalonde to badmouth vets?  Of course not.  But I'd like him to quit publicly pointing out mistakes made by rookies, whether they are rookie mistakes or mistakes vets would make.  Just tell us SY will decide if they stay on the big club or not, and use rookies when they are as good for the team as vets.

Part of this is the nature of the questions hes asked. Nobody in the Detroit media is going to ask about an Olli Matta mistake in the 2nd period. Nor are they going to ask about a Petry missed assignment in the 3rd period. What they will ask him about is Edvinsson and how he thinks hes performing. Two years from now it will be the same. No one will be asking about the vet Edvinsson. Instead, theyll be looking for the coachs thoughts on the performance of the rookie D Axel Sandin Pellikka

TreKronor

Nothing like finally bringing him up during an atrocious slump where the lines are a mess. Just setting him up for failure.

RockyGibraltarTreKronor

Keep in mind that he did play some with Czarnik while he was up here. Czarnik is/was his center in GR. What the two of them developed in GR didnt translate up here.

Their five minutes together with the Wings compared to the 20 minutes/game is not a fair comparison.
