Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y. Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation. There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that.
from Ansar Khan of Mlive,
A more recent trend the Red Wings need to stop is their goals against. They have allowed 31 goals in their past eight games, including four or more seven times.
Coach Derek Lalonde, however, said that is not reflective of their five-on-five play.
I havent thought about it like that because I think our process has been very similar, Lalonde said. Goals against have creeped up but the chances against, our underlying numbers, have not. Theyve been pretty consistent with where weve been when weve had some success.
Is that good enough? I dont know. Is that a product of some goals we may want back? Maybe. But I havent really looked that closely into the goals against because overall play has been fairly consistent with some underlying numbers.
The Red Wings also need to avoid playing catch-up. They have allowed the first goal in each of their past five games and faced four-goal deficits in three of those contests.
