Surprisingly not Hagg. Making room for zadina and Berggman

How will this help? Clears a roster spot to bring Varana back but it should have been Hagg. If its not Varana coming back then there are too many vets in GR again. The Wings can’t beat out all the teams above them to make the playoffs. Tank and go for the pick.

Erne is one of the few that hits regularly on the team that is way too soft. He has decent hands and size.

Nobody’s going to confuse him for the most talented NHL’er but he sure is a hard worker. I hope he gets picked up and keeps going.

I can't imagine he'll clear

We said that about pretty much every player we put on waivers and they all clear. I agree Erne is a hard working guy, but let's be honest, nobody even noticed his absence in the games he missed.

10% a contender or wannabe takes a shot on him. His cap hit is not small, he’s been around and maybe you’re thinking depth. Not sure he’d be my first choice but he’s also essentially free for the cap hit.

I mean yeah, he’s a $2.1m replacement or worse player. Who can take that on? You can’t retain on waivers. This could be the end unless he signs for less after this deal.

from Kevin Allen of Detroit Hockey Now,

The Detroit Red Wings placed forward Adam Erne on waivers today, presumably with the expectation of sending him to the Grand Rapids Griffins. Erne can theoretically be claimed by any of the 31 other NHL teams, although it seems unlikely that will happen.

With Erne in the American Hockey League, the Red Wings can recall Jonatan Berggren who was temporarily moved off the Detroit roster to activate Filip Zadina. He needed to be activated to go to Grand Rapids for a two-game conditioning stint. The Berggren demotion was a paper transaction. Berggren didn’t actually join the Griffins.

With Erne in Grand Rapids, both Berggren and Zadina can be in Detroit Monday to practice for the Red Wings’ next game Tuesday against the Edmonton Oilers. The Red Wings haven’t played since losing 2-0 to the New York Islanders on Jan. 27.

Erne has not been in the AHL since 2017-18 when he played 41 games for the Syracuse Crunch. This is the fourth season in Detroit for Erne who one of the Red Wings’ most physical players. He leads Detroit with 122 hits. That’s 10 more than Moritz Seider and Ben Chiarot have.

Erne is having a better season offensively than he had last season. He has six goals in 43 games, the same number of goals he had last season in 74 games.

It's weird how nobody has been interested in the mediocre to problematic players of a bad team. One day they'll have to make a tough decision on a guy worth claiming

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y. Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation. There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that.
