i do like that the league justifies their calls or lack there of. there was a time not too long ago this would have just been nothing with no further comment leading to mass confusion and anger. at least they’re creating a record now which will hopefully lead to more and more consistency. even if you disagree with the call, Shanny lays out the rational pretty clearly and its hard to argue with

Sure he lays out his justification, if the facts actually matched his commentary. The hit is clearly to the head, watch the head snap. I would have given Nolan at least one game.

Avoidable hits to the head on otherwise clean hits are those which are punishable.  There really wasn’t a good way for Nolan to avoid hitting Klesla in the head, seeing as how Klesla had his head down and Nolan’s hit was along the centerline of the body.

An attempt for Nolan to go lower puts himself in a vulnerable position for a headshot if Klesla makes a flinch adjustment. The DoPS got this one right.

Right? the head contact kind of looked about as incidental as any of Kronwall’s legal whoppers. different part of the ice, but same idea. from the front, stayed low, through the body. Not much more someone can do. Hard not to cringe though when you see it full speed.

Yeah timbits just for clarification…Hits that make contact with the head are not necessarily illegal. The defining factor is whether it’s targeted, picked or the principal point of contact.  None in this case.

That’s a great clean hit on a guy with his head down
