New York Islanders center Mathew Barzal has won the Calder Memorial Trophy, awarded “to the player selected as the most proficient in his first year of competition in the National Hockey League,” as selected by the Professional Hockey Writers Association.
Barzal was a near-unanimous selection, receiving 160 of 164 first-place votes for 1,626 points. Right wing Brock Boeser of the Vancouver Canucks (two first-place votes, 750 points) and center Clayton Keller of the Arizona Coyotes (one first-place vote, 492 points) finished second and third, respectively.
