Video/Audio- Anthony Mantha On His Hot Start

from Mike Johnston of Sportsnet,

The Detroit Red Wings are 2-0-0 out of the gates, thanks in large part to the team’s top line of Anthony Mantha, Dylan Larkin and Tyler Bertuzzi.

The trio have already combined for a whopping 16 points with Mantha in particular taking his game to new heights early in the 2019-20 campaign.

Heading into Monday’s action, Mantha sat tied with Toronto Maple Leafs sniper Auston Matthews for the league lead in goals with five and sits alone in second place in overall scoring with seven points behind only Mika Zibanejad (eight points) of the New York Rangers.

Mantha, 25, joined Hockey Central at Noon on Monday after being named the NHL’s second star of the week and sang the praises of his linemates.

“Oh it’s amazing,” Mantha said of his line’s hot start. “We ended up finishing last year on a good note and I think we’re just getting to know each other even more on the ice. It’s fun to play 15, 20 (minutes) with the same linemates and I mean Larkin and Bertuzzi are just playing unreal hockey right now and I think the chemistry is where it needs to be right now.”

Keep noticing Mantha referring to his confidence not having been this high since his last year was of juniors.

And Blash mentioning how especially important confidence is to a player like Mantha.

Channeling Uncle Mike, we could acknowledge how much of that confidence is earned through consistent work and then results.

In any case, we’re a long way from Jimmy D’s tactical but still maybe over the top
reaction to first looks at Mantha as a Red Wings player.

He’s got such a good shot and to be able to unleash it while he’s
moving with power - and to be able to drive it to the net with the hands and reach to beat goalies in close is going to be a challenge to match up with. I’m sure teams will try to prevent Mantha from getting the puck with a head of steam.

There will always be slumps but you get the sense all three guys on that line not only mesh so well together on the ice. They also love playing together and continually motivate each to be consistently great: talking about their goals and how they want to play and I assume will adjust to tougher checking when it comes.

This is one more reason why it’s so important to have such a strong emerging leader from within the best young offensive players.

Notice this quote from Mantha: ” It’s fun to play 15, 20 (minutes) with the same linemates”. I hope the coach doesn’t revert to shuffling lines after the first game in which this line doesn’t produce.
