Stream- Detroit’s Morning Skate

I will be updating the morning skate here, but watch The Morning Skate below and also a look at the Carolina Hurricanes is below too.

added 10:59am, No beat writer has chimed in this morning from the LCA but...

added 11:11am, Bultman,

Four Red Wings skaters still out on the ice practicing with Jonathan Bernier -- the two extras (Biega and Lindstrom) at one end, and the two Filips, Hronek and Zadina, ripping shots on Bernier at the other.

from Michael Smith of the Canes website,

Back in Action: Dougie Hamilton is set to play his first regular season game since Jan. 16, 2020, when he sustained a season-ending leg injury in Columbus. Prior to the injury, Hamilton racked up 40 points (14g, 26a) in his first 47 games, which still ranked fourth on the team for the entire season.

Brett Pesce is making his return to the ice for the first time since Feb. 22, 2020, when he suffered a season-ending shoulder injury in Toronto. Unlike Hamilton, Pesce was unable to join the Canes in the bubble for the playoffs, so it's safe to say he's happy to be back and healthy.

Potent Quotables

"Roddy has prepared us mentally enough to where we're ready to go. ... All the guys are ready to get on the road and start this thing." - Jaccob Slavin

"We're excited. I think the guys are just ready to play. They're tired of practicing, so let's have at it." - Rod Brind'Amour

"We're here to win. That means win everything. That's the expectation, and that hasn't changed. But, we're not making the playoffs today. We've got to build through this and make sure we're on the right track. ... We're all in here. We're all in to win it." - Brind'Amour

One good thing about the stream of The Morning Skate is they talked to Blashill after the skate. So in that way we get the live version of Blashill instead of waiting for the video later in the day.

from Josh Berenter of the Wings website,

The Red Wings made an underrated signing last April, acquiring forward Mathias Brome from the Swedish Hockey League. The 26-year-old scored 43 points in 52 games for his Orebro HK club last season and impressed Detroit’s coaching staff enough to earn a spot on the opening night roster. Brome will wear No. 86 for the Wings and could play on the third forward line with Valtteri Filppula and Sam Gagner.

While the Red Wings haven’t seen game action in more than 300 days, it’s been almost 450 days since Danny DeKeyser last played an NHL game after missing the last 62 games last season with a back injury. DeKeyser will suit up for his first game since October 22, 2019 and will look to continue being a mainstay on the Wings’ top defensive pairing.

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977.  No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y.  Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation.  There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature.  Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that.
