Steve Yzerman Continues To Shuffle The Deck

from Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press,

Fabbri is the sixth player Yzerman has added to the roster. He signed free agents Patrik Nemeth and Valtteri Filppula, and traded for Adam Erne, Alex Biega and Perlini. Erne cost a fourth-round pick in 2020, Biega cost underachieving prospect David Pope, and Perlini cost defense prospect Alec Regula, a third-round pick from 2018.

Yzerman’s moves have all been attempts to patch a rebuild that still needs another wave of prospects to become impact players before the playoffs are realistic. That isn’t happening this season. If Yzerman thought prospects such as Evgeny Svechnikov or Filip Zadina were ready to make an impact at the NHL level, they would be with the Wings.

The organization knew this would be another tough season, but the blowout losses have warranted low-risk gambles. Perlini has no points and is minus-3 in the four games he has played. Fabbri, 5-foot-10, 190 pounds, is another guy who is looking to re-ignite his NHL career, and the Wings present an opportunity to do so.

from Ted Kulfan of the Detroit News,

Fabbri, a teammate of Tyler Bertuzzi on the 2014 Guelph Ontario Hockey League championship team, had been a healthy scratch at times and was getting frustrated, feeling he is close to returning to his earlier success on the ice and feeling good physically.

Immediately after being informed of his trade last night in Edmonton, Fabbri told The Athletic’s Jeremy Rutherford he was looking for an opportunity and believes going to Detroit will provide that chance.

“I was happy with how I was playing and I thought my game was coming back,” Fabbri said. “I just didn’t get the opportunity I was hoping for to help push myself to get back to where I was. If you ask any player, they would want to get more opportunity or whatnot. But this team (the Blues) did great things last year, and there are guys that did fantastic things to get them to where they are. There’s nothing I can do about that.”

Fabbri is looking forward for the chance to play regularly with the Wings.

One of the other stories linked to this article was about Yzerman possibly moving Zadina. Call Kenny and trade for Puljarvi?  Prob not spelled correctly but I am lazy.

Ignore above comment. I had not scrolled down to see the Zadina post.
