DETROIT – The Detroit Red Wings today placed center Michael Rasmussen on long-term injured reserve retroactive to Jan. 4 and assigned him to the American Hockey League’s Grand Rapids Griffins for conditioning.
Rasmussen has skated in 41 games as a rookie with the Red Wings in 2018-19, totaling 13 points (6-7-13) and 19 penalty minutes. The 19-year-old forward was one of five Red Wings to make their NHL debut on Oct. 4 vs. Columbus and went on to record his first NHL point on Oct. 8 at Anaheim and score his first goal on Oct. 30 at Columbus. The Surrey, British Columbia, native became the sixth teenager in Detroit’s franchise history to score in three-straight games when he did so from Nov. 13-17. Rasmussen is tied for second on the Red Wings with three power-play goals, which is also tied for sixth among NHL rookies.
