Leaning On The Veterans

from Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press,

Dylan Larkin looked to Henrik Zetterberg. Darren Helm looked to Kris Draper.

Mired in a bleak season, there isn’t much for the Detroit Red Wings to rally around. They struggle to score, struggle to keep the puck out of their own net, and spend most games playing from behind. The next opportunity to stop what has grown to an 11-game losing streak comes Tuesday at Winnipeg.

The unifying force in the locker room is to not surrender, to not allow a 31st-place ranking to seep into the culture veterans learned when they were young.

Helm provided an example in Saturday’s game against the Pittsburgh Penguins, delivering a big shift that culminated with him setting up a goal. It’s the kind of performance he remembers seeing from older teammates.

IMO there are NO Veteran players that the prospects should be looking to.

I haven’t done any research but I think there are NO Vets in the top scoring.  Larkin’ s line tooka hit with the Mantha injury, and 2nd line is saddled with Fil who is not Fil anymore.  Fabbri has been a pleasant surprise.

The sooner the better should see NO Vets in the Top 6.

About Abel to Yzerman

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977.  No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y.  Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation.  There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature.  Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that.
