David Perron sounds like he's been told/he's not expecting to be back in Detroit.

Q: On the possibility of landing in Montreal as an UFA....

A: "It would be a dream. When I'm in Detroit, I don't have the same nervousness as when I'm playing in Montreal. If it doesn't make it to play, it probably will happen later. Here's the whole podcast

I was at the game.  The refs and the coaching staff should be fired into the Sun.  Good on the boys to pull this one out despite them.

from Bob Duff of Detroit Hockey Now,

Okay, to celebrate the return of Elmer Soderblom to the lineup of the Grand Rapids Griffins, lets get all of the big puns out of the way.

Yes, he was looming large. Certainly, he was an imposing presence. And of course, Soderblom came up big.

What else would you be expecting from the 6-foot-8, 255-pound Detroit Red Wings prospect?

Coming back into action following a battle with illness, Soderblom would net a goal as the Griffins were posting a 4-3 overtime victory over the Rockford IceHogs in Game 3 of their AHL Calder Cup playoff series. The Griffins are leading the best-of-five set 2-1.

from Tyler Kuehl of Mlive,

In another intense game, the Grand Rapids Griffins top offensive weapon came through once again.

After blowing a lead late to the Rockford IceHogs, Jonatan Berggrens second overtime goal of the series gave the Griffins a 4-3 win, and a 2-1 lead in the Central Division Semifinal.

Head coach Dan Watson said his team bounced back from a poor performance during their Game 2 loss on Wednesday.

We challenged them from Wednesdays game, Watson said after the game. We asked them to be better in certain areas, especially in the compete and battle level. I think our guys did a good job in that department.

It's tough to give up two goals with a little over 3 minutes left, less than 60 seconds apart too.  The first goal against was fluky too.  Looks like the Hogs got the bounces but still lost.  Good for the Griffins.

Wingding

I'm thinking either Kasper or Danielson are Wings next season coming out of camp. In a perfect world both. It's time for new blood, especially at center.

dcaWingding

If Kasper did it, it would be very surprising. He's had a full year of the AHL plus now a playoff series. Plus 2 and 1/4 years in the Swedish Elite League including winning the championship league title. That's pro hockey against men. He struggled initially in the AHL, but since mid-Jan when he was announced as player of the week Kasper AHL player of the week award. That's how you prove your worth to Yzerman.

Danielson has been playing Jr hockey for 3 and 1/2 years. That is entirely different. Jr

hockey players don't make the pros UNLESS

  • they have transfer rights issues (where they are too good for Jr's but not allowed to play in the AHL because of contract rights (Rasmussen dealt with this and it probably set back his development as he was sent to the AHL following 1 year in the NHL).

OR

  • they are top 5 picks (as even Larkin was sent to play in GR after college albeit for 1 playoff series)

Danielson making the team out of camp would be shocking. Especially given Yzerman's stated philosophy of over-ripening players like Holland. No one knows if he's got the ability to be a future 1st line NHL center or a 3rd line shut down defensive center. The depth at middle six forward would really hurt his chances too.
