Good Game For Zadina Tonight

from Peter J. Wallner of Mlve,

Filip Zadina made the most of the first game in his very short farewell tour with the Grand Rapids Griffins.

Zadina scored twice and assisted on Matthew Ford’s overtime goal in a 4-3 win Friday against San Diego as he picked up where he left off in Detroit.

“With the boys, it’s great to be together with them and having fun,” he said.

Zadina tied the game, 2-2, with a blast just above the right circle 10 seconds into a power play at 8:45 of the second period and tied it again at 3-3 with a tip-in off Brian Lashoff’s shot from the point at 9:45 in the third period....

Ford, the team captain, could see the difference in Zadina.

“Everybody tonight is going to remember his goals but the thing I’m going to appreciate the most is he came down here to work hard for us,” he said. "That’s what we expect when they come down to help us for a little bit.”

Something has really “clicked” with the kid in his second stint with the Wings. He’s playing harder than ever before, and I have a feeling being around (and playing with) guys like Larkin and Bert are part of the reason why. They’re now showing the way for the new guys like Pav and Z did for them when they first joined the team.

It’s great to see, and I hope it rubs off on guys like Veleno and Rasmussen when they get to (or back to) Detroit.

Kudos to Blashill and the coaching staff. No freebies.

I figured id get this response. I guess its larkin and bert who run the team.

Not the front office staff. lol

Even if we give Blashill ALL of the credit for Larkin, Bert, Mantha, Hronek, Nyq, Tats… everyone, and no accountability for those who haven’t, he has under delivered.

Scoreboard says so year after year.

At least we’re (apparently) developing good future trade options though.

full agreement

Blashill deserves a lot of blame for the performance of the team.

That doesnt mean he hasnt done anything good at all. He didnt change the defensive system. But im certainly not going to say that larkin and bert did. Hahahhahahahahha

Blash might deserve some credit… maybe. But he doesn’t deserve most or all of it. Part of it is the instruction coaching gives to players, but a lot of it is picked up by observing player work ethic and good habits exhibited by the guys already with the team. That’s guys like Larkin, Bert, Hronek, Fabbri, et al. “You wanna stick with the team? These are the kinda things you gotta do”.

I feel like Zadina and Smith have both picked up on that in their time with the big club, and now that both of ‘em have some goals under their belt, they’ll stay motivated to stick with the team.

If Blashill doesnt have a net positive role in development, as is questioned, then why is he still here?

If Blashill is good for nothing, then Yzerman needs to be held to account for keeping the coach of the worst team in DECADES.

Zadina was dealing with a slight issue, coach felt it was best to error on the side of caution.

What a completely reasonable response.
