Dirty Goals And The Trade Deadline

04/04/2021 at 8:05am EDT

from Ted Kulfan of the Detroit News,

The Wings had good scoring opportunities after Erne's goal — Erne himself had a couple — but the Wings couldn't get another past Vasilevskiy, the likely Vezina Trophy winner this season, who was tough in the late stages of the game.

"Not too satisfied right now," forward Dylan Larkin said of the rally that fell short. "We lost 2-1, we were there. (We) again didn't have the best start but we battled back into the game.

"Vasilevskiy was good, he did what he does."

Tampa’s Ross Colton and Brayden Point scored 3:19 apart in the first period, but it was Vasilevskiy who starred against the Wings with 25 saves including numerous big stops late to preserve the lead.

"In my mind he's the best (goaltender) in the league, and might be by a lot," coach Jeff Blashill said. "That's not any disrespect to the other goalies but he's real good. You have to find ways to score. One of the ways that you can score on any goaltender is make sure you have great traffic and score dirty (goals). … We have to continue to find ways to score those dirty goals."

from Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press,

Jonathan Bernier should appeal to teams worried about depth in goal. Luke Glendening has drawn offers at this time of year for years because he’s an exemplary defensive forward who is excellent on faceoffs and provides leadership.

Yzerman as good astold Bobby Ryan when he was signed in October that odds were he would flip Ryan for draft picks. He’s a natural scorer and his $1 million salary holds extra appeal with the pandemic having savaged revenue for the past year. Teams eyeing a long playoff run always want to shore up defensively, and that’s where veteran Marc Staal fits, though the Wings likely would have to retain some of his $5.7 million salary cap hit.

Trading Bernier or Glendening would be bold because moving Bernier would rob the Wings of their best goaltender, and Glendening, an alternate captain, is a huge part of the fabric of the locker room.

But Yzerman’s history shows a determination to build a contender.

Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation. There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that.
