Dennis Cholowski Recalled

DETROIT - The Detroit Red Wings today recalled defenseman Dennis Cholowski from the American Hockey League's Grand Rapids Griffins.

Cholowski, 21, has split his second professional campaign between the Red Wings and Griffins, showing eight points (2-6-8) and four penalty minutes in 29 games with the Red Wings, including five points (1-4-5) on the power play to rank second among the team's defenseman in addition to his first overtime-winning goal in the NHL (Nov. 12 at Anaheim). Since joining the Griffins last month, Cholowski has notched five points (2-3-5) in 17 contests, including goals in two of his last four games with the team. Dating back to his pro debut at the end of the 2016-17 campaign, Cholowski has 17 points (2-15-17) and 14 penalty minutes in 43 regular-season games with the Griffins and two points (0-2-2) and two penalty minutes in six Calder Cup Playoff games. In his two NHL seasons, the 6-foot-2, 197-pound defenseman has recorded 24 points (9-15-24) and 20 penalty minutes in 81 games with the Red Wings.

Who got hurt? Odd timing considering the dzone coverage meeting blash just spoon fed the team.

Cholowski is still very young, not down on him yet.  For his draft position he’s doing better than most from that year.  And let’s be serious, his surrounding teammates constitute the worst Red Wings teams in 30 years, epically bad.  That does not help his development.

The Red Wings are on pace for 46 points.
The LAK, next worse rate, are on pace for 67 points.

There’s little to indicate the Wings can or will play significantly better than they have so far.  LAK could play worse, a little.

To pass the LAK projection of 67 points, the Red Wings will have to play 18-10-4 over the remaining 32 games for 40 points.

As a reminder, their current record is 12-34-4.

I’m a little surprised Yzerman didn’t claim Luke Schenn. Zero risk, possibly a bit of a reward if he played well for the month and could be turned into a mid-to-late round draft pick, and they wouldn’t have to worry about stunting anyone’s development or whatever.
