Trading Zetterberg is such a pipe dream, but man I wish they could/would.  Get *something* back for him, and get out from under that terrible contract.

It wouldn’t matter, the recapture penalty would still affect the Red Wings, even if he is traded and retires as a member of a different team.

LOL. Kronwall.

Yup, I bet other GM’s are ringing KH’s phone off the hook for that potential trade.

Yeah, it’s really important for Detroit to get out from under the 10th (or so) worst contract they have.

I would not trade Z unless he demands a trade and I do not see him doing that. And I doubt the return will be worth it anyway. This is one of those cases when loyalty should trump business.

They left AA off the candidate list. Zetterberg should LTIR with his back issues.

How exactly is he going to justify back issues when he’s played almost 2 full seasons since his last back issue?

Let’s ask Marian Hossa and Joffrey Lupul

Yeah, clearly he can’t hack it anymore, what with the nearly 70 points he put up last year or the near 60 he’s on pace for this year.

LTIR, what a joke.

Not that Lupul has played recently, but he may or may not be healthy so…

This is just shallow reporting. Here are the guys on the move, in order of probability:

Green
Ouellet
Booth
Nyquist
Mrazek
AA

Anyone else would be a shock. Even among these 6…Kenny might stop after 2 or 3 guys and take a nap. Being a GM is hard.

So zetterberg has played 54 of 54 games this season… But he should go on ltir because of his back problems? Not to mention he’s second on the team in points.

LOL.

Kronwall isn’t going anywhere this season but he could be a legitimate trade candidate for a team next deadline. Why not pick him up for a long playoff run? Not the best but has a load of experience.

He could actually fetch a nice return next year. Definitely not this year… But next.

Don’t look now but we’re now in line to draft at 7. Soon to be 8 as the Hawks tank. 8 could easily turn into 9 or 10 at the lottery. So can we please f&\]& sell guys like Green and Nyquist now so that we hopefully lose some more games and fall into the top 5. Oh wait, Kenny is still thinking we can go on a run!

AA was listed as an untouchable according to Custance/his source, but he really shouldn’t be. The fancy stats aren’t good for AA. Yeah, I haven’t been his biggest fan up to this point but honestly the best outcome for the Wings is for him to shoot his value sky high, then another team offer sheets him and let him walk. Or go get a good D prospect now.

Booth isn’t listed on here either, but he has negative value so who cares lol

I don’t think anyone is suggesting that Hank should go on LTIR due to actual medical reasons.  It’s all about cap relief.  It’s also an out for him if he decides grinding out the last few years of his career on a bottom of the barrel team isn’t worth it.

Booth has negative value? Why? Or maybe you make a list of Wings with positive value and those with negative value. Just so we can get a glimpse into your logic process…

You get it.

Because of his contract, Z is basically untradeable. If he retires before the end of his contract, regardless where he’s playing, there’s penalties. So the DRW have to keep him in the fold, under protection, so to say. If he’s ready to hang up his skates before the contract is over, he can help the franchise by going LTIR for his back issues. Easy to do.

Of course, Z could actually retire before the term of his contract expires just to really stick to KH; that would be fun.

Neither Kronwall or Zetterberg is getting traded unless they tell management they wouldn’t mind be traded to a contender. With Z there would at least have to be a discussion about his likelihood to retire before the end of contract.

The return for either might be a bit surprising. Teams like to add depth and experience and both could provide that in spades.

Z’s contract is NOT a bad contract. He’s provided a LOT to the team during the duration of the contract. Nobody ever expected him to perform at the same level at the end of the contract as he did at the beginning. He continues and will continue to be a valuable role model for the younger players.

LTIR has become a joke but I don’t expect Z and the Wings would use this option. For one, the player has to be a willing participant.

I still don’t quite get the Hossa ordeal. Couldn’t they have made a special jersey just for him out of a different material? Plenty of workplaces have to deal with disabilities. Why would the NHL be exempt from that?

The jersey barely makes any contact with the skin. It’s the pads, skates, etc. that do. That is quite the undertaking.

Dang. I hadn’t thought about that option. Please, let’s do that one. I bet it nets at least a 1st round pick.
