So…getting any work done? Approximately 8 hours until the pain starts. Now don’t get me wrong. When I say it’s going to be painful, that doesn’t necessarily mean I’m predicting a loss tonite. Nope. It just means the playoffs themselves are painful. Every game, every minute, every shift.
I’ll tell you, and this is just between us, I was feeling sorry for AlanaH last night, knowing she was dying with all 76 shots fired at Luongo.
I’ve got a few ideas that could reduce the pain tonite and I’ll get to those in a second. First, I’m sure you’ve all noticed by now that the Varsity has chimed in. Wojo and the Delicate Genius have surprised no one by climbing back aboard the wagon the day the playoffs start.
Listening instead of watching tonite? WXYT will be streaming it on their website as well as airing it on 97.1. Also, Mike Babcock will be on WDFN tomorrow. No matter the result, it should be an adventure in literacy.
Your fellow readers politicked for a Bruce MacLeod glossary entry yesterday. I believe it was TeamDub who coined “Khan(!)verse”. Effective. A nice slam at the DD Captain and a little word play thrown in for good measure. We’ll give it a couple days, but that one’s definitely the leading candidate.
Keys for tonite:
- a light dinner so I don’t hurl early
Oh, I guess I meant keys for the Wings. Right.
-Adaptability. How will Mike Babcock react to surprise moves from Calgary? I’m not really sure Jim Playfair has the ability to think outside the box, but if he does Babcock better match him move for move. Last year’s failure can at least be partly attributed to his brain freeze after Edmonton employed the trap.
-Draper, Maltby, Lidstrom. Iginla must be stifled, frustrated, castrated, mandated, lambasted and shut down.
-Johan Franzen has told us he’s getting angry, been getting angry for weeks in preparation for tonite. No one seems to know who this guy is outside of Detroit. He must be mentioned prominently in the Calgary papers tomorrow.
The rest are obvious: Datsyuk, healthy Hank, stable Hasek.
Oh, and one more thing. Would it be too much to ask for a raucous Joe tonite? You know there are plenty of tickets to be had if you have the gumption. Rumor has it that if you search the usual spots, you can find a deal or two, or twelve. Like, maybe, 12 together in Section 201 row 8 in the upper bowl. $99 each.
Find them. Buy them. Fill the Joe tonite. Drown out John Hahn’s Pretty In Pink soundtrack tunes.
I’m just not feeling it today. The wit isn’t there. The nerves are taking over. Have I told you that, well, I hate the playoffs?
