GDT Plus today, bitches. There is Trouble in Paradise, much more than the diggers are letting on. It is "Huge," Babcock said. "It's not even the trip, it's tomorrow. We got a game tomorrow. We've got one out of a possible four points here lately. We need to get back on the winning side of things." Yea Mike, and you better friggin find some urgency.
This three game swing, tonight at basement dwellar CGY, Friday at EDM, and Saturday at VAN, could very well determine if the playoff streak continues. Let me explain.
I know, we are only two games past the half-way point and I'm sounding general quarters. WTF you say, DET are in 7th place in the West (but have played 1 more game than others).
Let me fill in some blanks. DET have played 26 games (12-9-5 - .558%); 9-4-3 at home (.656%), and 3-5-2 (.400%) on the road. DET have 14 road games left but only 8 at home. That should scare the dickens out of everyone, but I've gone a little further.
Here I hazard an assumption, and it is slightly imperfect. I looked at the last three seasons to see the points registered by the #8 team. The sample is skewed because in the previous three years, competition was not limited to conference foes; still it is a good size sample.
Let's go with 95 points being the minimum. Adjusted to a 48 game schedule, that means the target number is 55.603 pts. (95/164 = .5792% * 96).
Right now the Wings sit at 29 points, so they need 26 more to get to 55 (a friendly nod). Not too difficult with 22 games left, right?
Wrong. DET needs 26/44 = .5909 (almost 60%). In a home heavy schedule to date, DET are earning just .558% of points (and only .400% on the road).
The Wings need to get hot, and in a friggin hurry. Nothing in DET's numbers suggest a good result; but that is why they play the game.
DET: 26 GP, 12-9-5, 29 pts, (7 in Conf, 3 in Central), 68 GF, 66 GA, Last 10 5-3-2, OT 1
CGY: 24 GP, 9-11-4, 22 pts, (15 in Conf, 5 in Northwest), 64 GF, 82 GA, Last 10 4-5-1, LOST 3
DET ROAD: 3-5-2 (19)
CGY HOME: 6-5-2 (22)
DET: 0.558 point% (17), 2.54 G/G (19), 2.46 GA/G (9), 1.25 5-5 F/A (6), 14.4 PP% (25), 79.0 PK% (20), 29.5 S/G (13), 28.3 SA/G (13), 51.9 FO% (6)

I know I’m going to sound like a disloyal fan here, but I won’t be around much during this west coast swing. Either it’s the cosmic dust or the uncomfortable feeling in my gut but I can’t stay up that late anymore. (Thank goodness the Wings will be in the east next season.)
So… I’ll be with you all in spirit, and I’ll read the LB comments the day after. And I’ll be hoping - though not really expecting - the Wings to come through and get the points they need.
Thanks, Okie! You went over and above today. Well done.
LET’S GO RED WINGS !!!!!

...5 years?...the ‘08 playoffs?
Seriously though, this is the perfect time for Calgary to turn their season around.
This three game swing, tonight at basement dwellar CGY, Friday at EDM, and Saturday at VAN, could very well determine if the playoff streak continues.
The following six games: home to Minny, back-to-back at Anaheim, at Phoenix, at SJ and a return home with a lovely Sunday afternoon tilt against Chicago. What a kick in the crotch.

It’s Halloween in March. February’s from hell will look tame in a couple weeks. Good news; the robins and the red wing blackbirds are back.

Agreed, but I’m just overjoyed that Abdelkader is closer to where he should be.

Well here’s hoping beyond hope that someone figures out Eaves is a ...
better skater
better shooter (actually can shoot)
smarter
better on the PK
hits his wait better
.... than Abby

no ties, no ties, no ties, no ties! Almost every team around us either has or will have 2 games in hand. And we fall short in 2 categories: #1 points, and #2 wins. This could very well come down to a tie at the end of the season. We dont sit well for those tiebreakers either, so 2 pt wins are a must. I dislike these type of “spoiler” games. Playing the wounded basement beast always seems to bite us in the arse. Winning this game would be huge. Lets get 2!
Game On!

Wow! Outstanding GDT, Jeff. Truly appreciate it. Now, I feel like it’s game day.
...I’m sounding general quarters.
At the ready.

This is a forechecking team that grinds the puck well below the goal line and the Wings have shown absolute flaccidity in handling it. General quarters indeed.
Still waiting on the game notes to post the refs slated to work the game tonight. As soon as it’s up, I’ll post it.
And FFS, get the two fuching points, Wings.

Boatload of practice tweets from Khan(!):
Babcock said Abdelkader will start on line with Datsyuk and Franzen but that Nyquist will play up there too. Nyquist starts with 63 and 11
Eaves is playing tonight so it looks like Tootoo will be scratched
Babcock said Tootoo isn’t injured, might be healthy scratch tonight cuz he has Filppula and Nyquist in
Tootoo is game time decision, white out for personal reasons; Lashoff in
Babcock said Gustavsson starting

Tatar, Andy & Eaves line was so bad it needed to be blown up? But Abby can’t play anywhere but on Pavel’s wing. This isht pisses me off.
“If we bring Gus up, it will be to play in the top 6”.... lying liars.
Odds of Gus playing more on the 3rd line than on Pav’s line?

No matter how many times the PC is pronounced dead, or pundits declare that we’re in the post-pc era, no phone or tablet beats a PC with a real keyboard where any amount of typing is involved. I’m loving my new Lenovo (refurb actually) with a fullsize keyboard and a 12.5” screen. “Our” iPad has now become my wife’s iPad. And it doesn’t weigh much more than the ipad.
