Detroit’s UFA Wish List

from Ansar Khan of Mlive,

Left wing Ilya Kovalchuk is at the top of their wish list. They'd be willing to give him a two-year contract at a high salary, a source said. They believe he's capable of scoring 25 to 30 goals....

The Red Wings are interested in bringing back Thomas Vanek, 34, on a one-year deal. They would trade him at the deadline for a draft pick if they're out of the playoff race. Vanek was a good fit in Detroit in 2016-17 (15 goals, 38 points in 48 games), before being dealt to Florida at the deadline for a third-round pick....

The Red Wings are eying two 32-year-old goalies - Carter Hutton of St. Louis and Anton Khudobin of Boston. Hutton, their first choice, went 17-7-3 with a 2.09 goals-against average and .931 save percentage. Khudobin went 16-6-7, with a 2.56 GAA and .913 save percentage.

Despite reports that the Red Wings are looking to trade goalie Jimmy Howard, a source said there is no chance of that happening.

more names, like the Wings may not re-sign Frk, RFA talk too...

This article is disgusting.  Here’s a crazy idea, sign Frk to a cheap deal, don’t play him on the 4th line and be happy when you’re drafting with a lottery pick next year.

Get Frk a stick with a reasonable curve on it and make him practice all summer. Frk’s shot on the PP causes chaos and movement that helps distract the dmen and makes for more garbage goals. The stand around and watch for 2 min and maybe get a shot from the point doesn’t work.

More vets is not the answer.

Unfortunately, it appears that the priority is to have butts in the seats drinking $11 Labatts and $7 dogs, rather than going with young guys and struggling for another year or two.

Well, it’s the Illitch’s team and they can run it however they like, but signing 30 & 35 year old free agents is a short plan to squeak into the playoffs, but is a myopic long term strategy….in my humble opinion….  confused

Detroit’s UFA wish list should include one position: goaltender.

That’s it.

But then again, Ken Holland really isn’t interested in rebuilding, so why not sign a bunch of vets?

If I didn’t know that he’s been with the organization for 25+ years I’d think Ken Holland was trying to bring the organization down on purpose.

Kovie: Highly doubt comes here so why worry? He wants a cup and he’s not gonna get that here.

Vanek: See above, why would he come here when a team like Columbus would probably resign him or another team that has more of a chance? To add, I wouldn’t think Vanek is interested in signing with a team just to be traded again.

Goalies: not bad choices hopefully we can pick up a decent stopgap in the backup department

Screw you.

Trade Howie. Sign two average goalies.
Fill holes with kids.
If the kids don’t work, try other kids.
If those kids don’t work, then you can bring up career ahl guys. Lashoff, McIlrath, Puempel

“They would trade him (Vanek) at the deadline for a draft pick if they’re out of the playoff race.”  Is that a misprint?  I think Mr. Kahn meant to say “when they’re out of the playoff race.”

if these idiots sign any of vanek, green, or kovalchuk, i’ll have watched my last wings game ever. this team is run but a bunch of blockheads who keep repeating the same mistakes. it’s a disgrace.
