Available Coaches At This Point

Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic looks at some of the top stories sure to be of interest after the season.

One of the topic is coaches...

I can’t remember the last offseason that featured this many quality free-agent head coaches.

Gerard Gallant, Bruce Boudreau, Peter Laviolette and Mike Babcock are just sitting there. That’s crazy.

We have interim coaches in San Jose, Dallas, Minnesota, New Jersey and Calgary, giving us five potential openings. We have to see what happens in Detroit, and of course, the potential of first-round upsets in the playoffs can also lead to coaching changes.

Add on to that, the yet-to-be-filled vacancy behind the bench for expansion Seattle. Now, GM Ron Francis had told me back in the fall that his coaching hiring window was likely to fall between January and June 2021, which makes sense. But does Francis, with ownership backing, want to fast-forward that process to get his hands on one of these four guys?

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y. Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation. There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that.
