from Ethan Sears of the New York Post,
Here was a game that looked straightforward, except to this year’s Islanders there is no such thing.
One of the traits that has defined these Islanders through 24 games is that they are the George Costanzas of the NHL, always doing the opposite.
So you get a successful road trip with two impressive wins, and then you get Tuesday — where the Islanders face-planted at home against the woeful Sharks by a 5-4 score on William Eklund’s winner at the end of overtime following a disastrous collapse in the last 12 minutes of regulation.
“We had the game under control with 8 ½ minutes left,” coach Lane Lambert said. “To lose that hockey game is a sin.”

For the LOVE OF GOD - this team goes to pieces in the third. I can pinpoint the problem. The mascot (NyIsles - the one with the beard) comes to our section with the score 4-2 starts mocking a SJ fan who was fairly silent all game - seemed like a good guy - and then NyIsles broke one of our seats that we share standing on it. Then SJ scored 2 goals with the goalie pulled and NyIsles hightails it out of there. Karma - He caused it this time! :) We were fine till he came in to do some lame T Shirt toss contest.
Two icings, inability to win a draw late in the game - bad clearing attempts and giving up with 10 seconds left and some rookie scores with 4 seconds left in OT. Isles played GREAT for the first 50 mins and had several chances to put it away. San Jose has had a good road trip so far. No Logan Couture either. Announced Attendance was 14.5k and it looked smaller. TUE night vs non-rival is part of the answer. But I see a lot of empty seats in other cities (I will name Winnipeg as one) and the costs to attend are so much higher these days. Only team in NHL with no empty net goals. That is part of the problem.
