Pittsburgh Penguins continue its poor form:

12/19/2017 at 7:29am EST

By Julie,

After the bad run in November, the Penguins were starting to get back in the form by the start of December by winning six of their previous seven games. However that form was only transitory as they have now lost all of their three previous games. They lost by 4-3 against Maple Leafs after Bozak scored twice for his team. They lost 2-1 against the Avalanche due to the 39 stops by Jonathan Bernier. And now they have been beaten by the Golden Knights 2-1 when they made history by winning their 20th game of this season.

In the previous Stanley Cup final, they had beatenNashville Predators 2-0 to win back to back championships. That had made them the fifth time Stanley Cup title winners.

This season, they began with a very slow start and did not recover since then. The lack of their veteran players in the form of Matt Cullen and Nick Bonino has hit them real hard. In the metropolitan division, they are currently placed at the sixth spot.

If you are a punter whose favorite team happens to be the Penguins, then it is definitely a little disappointing season for you. Right now, the Pittsburgh Penguins are looking to be suffering from a lot of problems this season. Their lineup has not performed as much as there were expectations from them. Their players Conor Sheary, Jake Guentzel and Carl Hagelin all have not been up to the mark as they were in the season of 2016-17. Looks like; they will have to do a lot of fixing in order to get back on the track.

This season, the record of the Penguins in one goal games has been particularly bad. Of its 32 games this season, 17 have been decided by one goal which means more than half of their games. While last season, the number of one goal games were only 22 out of their 82 games. Additionally, they have lost seven one goal games this season. While last season, they had won 19 games while losing only three one goal games.

Scoring more goals at even strength seems to be the cure for any ailing team which the Penguins have definitely not been able to do this season. As of 12th December, they had scored 45 goals at even strength which meant they were ranking at 29th in the league. It also meant that only two other teams were worse than they were- Buffalo Sabres and San Jose Sharks.

Looks like their team is tired after the previous few seasons in which they were quite brilliant. May be the team needs a new wave of energy? May be the admission of some fresh legs in the team through trade would do better for improving the bottom six of the team. However, that seems easier said than done because the Pittsburgh team seems to be a little deficient in that area of resources. And therefore, the inclusion of some fresh blood looks like a good idea.

Having said all that, the Penguins could still make a comeback on its own because they still have a lot of potential in their team. They are just having a bad season, and with a little bit creativity and effort they can become the team that they were in the last few seasons.
