KK- I Don't Even Want To Think About It

02/09/2024 at 12:45pm EST

For the last eleven days a KK Donation has been underway. Some of the regular KKA2Y members have continued to support the site with a few donations of over $100 and a few of the rest have made a donation of whatever they can afford. But the volume of donations is way down, forcing me to think perhaps the shelf life may be reaching the end of KK/A2Y.

I certainly do not want this to end but it has come to the point of at least questioning the future of KK/A2Y. Whatever decision I make, I guarantee you KK will be around all the way through the Stanley Cup Final, but 'I don't even want to think about it' at this point.

I know now I bit off more than I could chew with the upgrade, which basically became an almost complete rebuild, a lot more cash was spent that I had imagined. I also know I am going on my 20th year of 'doing what I do' and maybe I am doing something wrong?

Ask yourself, would you miss visiting KK on a regular basis? If the answer is yes, please donate if you can. Any amount will help.

I don't want to paint a blurry picture, I don't want your sympathy, the only thing I want is your understanding. I still have faith in the hockey community and hope you have faith in me.

To donate: (direct links to PayPal or GoFundMe or Zelle, (the email address to use with Zelle is kuklaskorner at gmail dot com). I am no longer using venmo.

KK members who have donated in the past will get the majority of ads removed for a year for $20, non-members will get the ads removed for $25. Make sure to register as a member too.

I believe KK/A2Y is becoming another casualty of the changed world due to the pandemic. People have turned inward in an attempt to live in a world they no longer understand. Everything costs more so people are being more judicious with their money. I consider KK/A2Y essential for my enjoyment of the NHL, let alone Red Wing hockey.

I don't have any answers to make people donate. If the end is near, I just want you to know how much this blog has meant to this hockey fan. I consider you a friend and will mourn the passing of KK/A2Y if that happens.

Cal,

I agree the pandemic changed a lot of things but I believe technology, streaming apps and social media plays a bigger part. Most people have their heads in their phones or Pads playing games watching tic tock, blah blah blah. People in general, at least to me seem disengaged.

The younger generation does not seem really into sports as much as our generation unless they can make money on it.

The sport itself keeps changing. Some people may think it is for the better but my circle friends dislike most the changes in the last 30 years. Two examples are the 3 on 3 overtime and shootout. None of my friends or family like the 3 x 3 OT or the shootout. My one friend turns the game off or leaves the room once it starts. It's Ice Capades.

Gambling is killing me for hockey (I really do not follow any other sports.

Paul,

I will miss this place if it goes away. So many great people here. My cyber friends. Hopefully it does not. I guess we will all be here to the end (God willing).

I am not thinking that cq, the only reason I brought it up was in the past I have been straight forward with all of you and will continue to do so.  Heck, without folks like you, the site would be nothing.

Today has been an encouraging day and I hope it continues.

calquakePaul

"without folks like you, the site would be nothing."

I am often equated with nothing. :) And don't call me folks Shirley.

You haven't done anything wrong, Paul. But, for me, the "upgrade" is a mess. Whoever did it, did a lousy job. Quotes don't work (which makes reading posts more difficult). The way comments appear makes it necessary to re-read every post to find any new comments that have been made. Quite honestly, the whole process is tedious. It's probably why fewer individuals post these days. And if they're not posting, they're less likely to donate.

Having said that, like others will do in order to keep KK going, I'll donate what I can as soon as I can. Whether that's enough to motivate you to continue busting your hump to put out content every day remains to be seen.

Kate

Quaker has a salient point. The world has indeed changed, and were of a mindset/generation that lives day to day, or at least we used to be. People now live second, to second it seems. Values are changing rapidly. I don't think you've done anything but provide so many with excellent content, and, a great place to be during a Red Wings games. Until you decide you've had enough, we'll still be here with our full support.

PaulKate

As I said in the post, I bit off more than I could chew.

As soon as I can the additional money, the comment section is the first priority.

I would be the first to say it is not working the way I want it to, but it is my own fault for thinkin I could handle it financially.

Paul

Perhaps I have going down the wrong road and start posting information like this...

from the New York Post,

Columbus Blue Jackets center Cole Sillinger denied cheating on singer Tate McCrae after the ex-couple reportedly called it quits last year.

Taking to his Instagram, the 20-year-old Sillinger replied to a a post by the Instagram account blind_ref_logic a meme account with 142,000 followers which accused him of cheating on McRae, also 20.

All false my guy, Sillinger wrote in the comments.

The post featured a collage of four photos, including a snapshot of McRae and Sillinger, as well as a photo of the Canadian singer at NHL All-Star this past weekend.

The post read: Step 1: Be Cole Sillinger. Step 2: Date out of your league (literally). Step 3: Cheat on her, jumpstarting her career [and] Step 4: She gets invited to the NHL All-Star game before you.

continue if you want

That is mildly amusing as a story. But I couldn't possibly care less who's dating who, so from that angle, big NOPE from me.

Steeb

I hope you stick around for as long as you feel like doing so, if only so you can scour thru all the twitters for the real info, so that I don't have to. 😀

evileye

It's my go to site for following the Wings and the NHL. I'll donate again soon but understand why others are reluctant to do so. If the site goes down I'll miss it terribly. I'm not sure how I would replace it. You could consider going subscription only but I don't know if the numbers would support it.

Paul

Let's understand, KK is not going down at least for the rest of this season.

After 52 hours of this post, donations have been steady and we are over half of my intended donation goal.

We will get there and what you could do is help get the word out, using social media, forums or word of mouth.

Again, the shutters are not going to suddenly appear and there is no plan for that to happen.

Paul

I want to thank Kate over at A2Y for her heartfelt wishes.  It means an awful lot to me.

Regarding the donation drive, we have less than $1K to go, I know it can be done.

KatePaul

Aww, shucks Paul. You are most welcome. KK is one of a kind, and, Im proud to be a member since 08, and, a lurker before that. Everything hockey is here for all fans, and, our own special place for Red Wings fans as well. You are the undisputed Godfather of Hockey blogs. A pioneer in my book. 😉☘

bigfrog

HI Paul, I just sent you a donation.

Paulbigfrog

Thanks bf, soon we can turn our attention to the game on the ice.

bigfrogPaul

I agree Paul. The Red Wings surprised me after a horrendous December.

Paul

About $700 away from reaching the intended goal.  Thanks to all, some of you twice, who have donated at this point.

damndogrevenge

I am glad most of us are donating but I believe the second important part is that everyone is posting. It helps make the site look and be busy. Hopefully that will pull more people in.

Pauldamndogrevenge

Remember 90% of the people who visit KK/A2Y are lurkers.

To their credit, a higher percentage than normal are making donations too.

Thank you to those lurkers.

Paul

I need $500 more to be able to relax, will today be the day?

bezukov

Im good for another donation on payday next week Paul.  Im happy to chip in what I can.

Have you considered a Patreon page? Im willing to be a monthly subscription donor myself, and it might help folks stay up on supporting the page.

Paulbezukov

Thanks and I never looked into Patreon, I know about it but I should at least read up on it.

Paul

$310 is the magic number.

SteebPaul

Does GoFundMe end today? And will they not charge the card if you don't make the goal?

PaulSteeb

There is no deadline to use gofundme. Regarding reaching the goal, I can say it will be reached within the next 24 hours, so no worries there.

Paul

I have some funds stream in from GoFundMe either tomorrow or Monday will hit the goal mark.

I will put up a post when it becomes official, thanks to all who donated and sent well wishes.  We even had a few people donate twice in the past ten days.

If you wish to donate, please do so, I was robbing Peter to pay Paul and I am about $10 in the black.
