Capitals vs. Golden Knights: Why the Stanley Cup Final will be Iconic

05/25/2018 at 12:30pm EDT

There is never a dull moment when it comes to the Stanley Cup Final. However, this year is set to be even more compelling; this is because the teams battling each other have both notable differences and a lot in common. To begin with, the Washington Capitals will be playing their first Cup Final in 20 years. Overall, this is their second final ever. The Capitals have come this far after beating the Tampa Bay Lightning at the Eastern Conference Final. Their opponents for the final are the Golden Knights of Las Vegas. Below is a look at why many fans are paying close attention to the NHL lines as the game proves to be classic.

Either way, the winner will bag their first Stanley Cup ever

It is always refreshing to see new faces going for the top cup. This year, fans will be treated to new teams to break the monotony. Keep in mind that the last eight championships have been won by Kings, Blackhawks and the Penguins. The Capitals came close to the Final Cup in 1998 when they were defeated by the Red Wings. Fans of both teams can expect a groundbreaking win from their favorite teams.

The best goal scorer is finally playing in the championship

With 607 regular-season goals garnered in the league, Alex Ovechkin is certainly the best there is. With such a thriving talent, it would be a shame if this player was not part of the final action. The good news is that this year is different. For the first time, Ovechkin will be playing in a Stanley Cup Final and to this end, fans can expect a showdown.

Marc-Andre Fleury might make history to redeem his career

At the age of 33, Fleury has enjoyed great Cup wins with the Penguins. At some point, he was able to beat the Capitals; and another opportunity to face off is here. In the expansion draft of last year, this talented goalie was let go by the Penguins to join Vegas. It will also be a battle between Ovechkin and Fleury because scientifically, one has to win the cup.

Fans get to enjoy the tantalizing Vegas pregame show

The pregame show is always something to look forward to. For those who have never seen it, this will even be more special. The show is a creative cosplay that features a Knight wielding a sword and directing his emotion to the other team's mascot. In fact, the mascot is stabbed to death. Other elements include fire spewing out of a castle in the upper level while fans hold and wave towels during the laser show. Before every home game, the Knights must perform the pregame show as a ritual.

Therefore, the Stanley Cup Final is set to be a classic and no matter the outcome, the winning team will have set a record in the NHL. The series will cover a total of seven games. The first game will be played on Monday on May 28th hosted by the Vegas Golden Knights. The Knights will also host the second game that plays on May 30th. The third and the fourth games will be hosted by the Washington Capitals and will be played on June 2nd and June 4th respectively. On June 7th, the fifth game will be played in Vegas leading to the 6th game on June 10th hosted by the Capitals. Game seven will be played on June 13th hosted by the Knights.
