from David Staples of the Edmonton Journal,
This just in from the Oilers, news that the team has hired: “TheOilers have hired Glen Gulutzan, Trent Yawney and Manny Viveiros as assistant coaches.”
My take
If I’m not mistaken, we now know what The Plan is for the Edmonton Oilers: axe all the asst. coaches, keep the same coach, GM and almost all the same players and see how that turns out.
In other words, The Plan is to bet the mediocre Edmonton Oilers of 2017-18 were a fluke, while the strong Oilers of 2016-17 were the real deal and the team can bounce back to that higher level.
It looks like we’ve got a full slate of new assistants in Glen Gulutzan, Trent Yawney and Emanuel Viveiros, and that’s a fine and encouraging development, given how horrendous the Oil’s special teams were last year and the strong pedigree of the incoming coaches.
