American centre Patrick White, who the scouts say has all the skills needed to succeed in the NHL, was the Canucks' pick in the first round of the entry draft Friday night. The Minnesotan jumped up in the rankings after his impressive play for the United States at the world under-18 tournament last winter. Vancouver picked 25th and didn't hesitate to select him.The six-foot-one, 190-pound forward is solid at both ends of the ice. He's hard to knock off the puck and he's tough in the corners and along the boards. He has a good wrist shot with a quick release, and he gets plenty of ice time in all situations. Now, we wait and see what Saturday brings... Swedes, no doubt. ;)Updates June 23, 2007: #33 (2nd Round) Canucks pick defenseman TAYLOR ELLINGTON (from Victoria, BC - 6' 0" - 200lbs) WHL#145 (5th Round) Canucks pick forward CHARLES-ANTOINE MESSIER (from Boucherville, QC, 5' 10" - 176) QMJHL#146 (5th Round) Canucks pick forward ILJA KABLUKOV (from Moscow, Russia, 6' 2" - 183) Russia-3#176 (6th Round) Canucks pick forward TAYLOR MATSON (from Mound - or Orono - ME, 5' 10" 165) USHL#206 (7th Round) Canucks pick forward DAN GENDUR (from Vancouver - or Victoria - BC, 5' 11" 195) WHL
