What's Your Gut Telling You About Tonight?

04/16/2024 at 11:17am EDT

Wings win, Caps lose? Wings win, Caps win? Wings lose, Caps win? Both teams lose?

There are more scenarios but you get the picture.

My gut says Wings win, Caps score late to tie game, Flyers win in OT.

RorSchach

Honestly.. I just want the Wings to win... Go out tough. If luck happens and the caps flounder.. then I look forward to a more than likely first round exit.. due to.. well, leaky d and also leaky g. But if they do make it in.. I believe the hunger will be there for next year. And that makes me hopeful. Hopefully the Captain has some moves up his sleeve. I really would like to see Showtime back. And definitely lose some dead weight. And I also think it's time to move on from the Joey V project.

from Stu Cowan of the Montreal Gazette,

The Canadiens have called up Logan Mailloux from the AHLs Laval Rocket and the 21-year-old defenceman is expected to make his NHL debut Tuesday at the Bell Centre against the Detroit Red Wings.

The decision to select Mailloux by former Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin was a polarizing one after the defenceman had renounced himself from the 2021 draft, saying he hadnt earned, and didnt deserve, the privilege of being selected after secretly photographing an 18-year-old woman engaged in a sexual act with him while he was 17 and playing in Sweden in 2020 and then sharing the picture and her identity with his teammates. Mailloux was charged with defamation and offensive photography in Sweden and was fined about $2,000.

We have met with Logan Mailloux multiple times over the course of the last eight to 10 months, the NHL said in a statement after the Canadiens called Mailloux up from Laval following Monday nights game. We are comfortable that he recognizes the gravity of his prior conduct and is committed to making better and more responsible decisions in the future. He has been cleared to participate in National Hockey League play.

Nightmare Red Wings scenario.

Flyers must beat the Caps in regulation time. Caps 1 point in OT eliminates Flyers but not Wings.

Tied late, Flyers must pull goalie.

Caps hold tiebreaker on Wings and a 2-pt win scoring on Flyers empty net locks out Wings, even with a Wings win.  Wings eliminated by a Caps goal on an empty net.

Regardless, or irregardless in Shiawassee County, this was another thrilling moment five minutes after the earlier thrilling moment.  Radio play by play guys are the best.

I feel like every game goes to OT tonight

then sharing the picture and her identity with his teammates.

This is right out of Mystery, Alaska. Shes got her February fat now in the second week of December, in the locker room referring to the voluptuous Megyn Price in the role of Sarah Heinz.

Women are doing the same exact thing (sexting), but noone with anything to lose yet..

TreKronor

I'm going to guess the Wings crap the bed and manage to lose, meanwhile the Caps lose so the Wings could have gotten in if they had won.  It's the fitting end to the season where they failed to capitalize on their opportunities and are thus the first loser.

Bill_HTreKronor

I want them to win so I'm going to guess they will win (5-3).  If they don't, or if WAS wins, then I can certainly live with the disappointment.  Karma is a bitch.  :-o  LGRW!

And in that scenario, Pens make the playoffs with a win tomorrow

TreKronorVPalmer

I know this is an unpopular viewpoint on this page, and it's not what I want, but I personally think the Pens deserve to be in moreso than the Wings.  Pens are hot, might take a first round to 6 or 7 games.  Wings...I just don't think so.

VPalmerTreKronor

I don't think Pens deserve it more because they are hot now. We were hot when they sold Gentzel at the deadline telling the world they are not even planning to make the playoffs. And after watching their defense against us in 6:5 win, I doubt they will compete even in 1 game against the Rangers.

rwbillTreKronor

Theyve played the last few games like that but somehow still pulled out points after crapping the bed magnificently early in the games.  It could go anywhere tonight.  All the games could.

TreKronorrwbill

Yeah, I'm honestly not going to be surprised with any single outcome.  I'm being pessimistic and guessing their luck will run out tonight...it'll make me feel a little more at ease when the night's over if they don't make the cut.

Wings barely win, Caps win.

Caps into playoffs.

HippyDave

I like our odds.  Washington is also playing a back-to-back and as of right now Lindgren is slated as the probable starter - he's been red hot lately but he hasn't been tested in b2b games yet.  Philadelphia on the other hand has had two days of rest and Ersson is riding a hot streak of his own.  Comprehensive D team against an older, tired offensive team.

Montreal surprised me with the amount of pluck they had yesterday, with their youth I think they'll have more jump than us today and you gotta wonder how much gas our guys have left in the tank.  Hopefully Lalonde balances our lines a little more than usual today and we stay as disciplined about staying out of the box as we did yesterday.  If we could, I'd call up a rested GR player (burgers) to give us some gas.

Ultimately, the hockey gods have not been smiling upon us so despite our odds, I remain reserved about the final outcome.  Either way, great season, good drama at the end, our guys should feel proud of how they ended things.

LGRW.

The Flyers are technically still alive too.   So, it will be no walk in the park for the Caps.  Detroit needs to take care of its own business and if you need help  - then we will clean up the Penguins on WED for you.  I think Philly and Detroit win and it sets the stage for Team Bettman to lose to the Isles on WED.

I am cheering for you guys and hope you make it.   The Isles could use the night to rest some players in a game that won't impact a playoff spot and then we get the scariest team in hockey - the Hurricanes.  BAD MATCHUP for the Isles.   The Canes take our style of play and shove it down our throats.  Its brutal - but the Isles are on a roll.   If you play the Rag$ - if you keep out of the box and can connect on PP - the NYR is not as good as the Canes on 5x5 play.   You would have a puncher's chance at least.  GOOD LUCK!

----I think Philly and Detroit win and it sets the stage for Team Bettman to lose to the Isles on WED.

---If we and Flyers win, we are in the playoffs, tomorrow's games do not matter unless they will change the rules and award Pens with 3 points for a win:)

rwbillVPalmer

unless they will change the rules and award Pens with 3 points for a win:)

Yes, there is precedence for NHL, Inc., changing the rules mid-stream to benefit the Penguins.

bigfrog

"The Flyers are technically still alive too. So, it will be no walk in the park for the Caps." Yep. It should be a barn burner in Philly tonight.😉

rwbill

I wonder if the Canadiens will show as much grit as they did last night, blocking shots from everywhere.  Its their last home game so theyll probably have jump early.

Wings reliance on being able to outscore their mistakes will come back to bite them sometime, hopefully not tonight.  Its an exhausting way to win and ultimately not how to win consistently.

rwbill

Detroit had 35 shots on goal, 37 attempts blocked, and 18 missed the net.

bezukov

My gut tells me that the Wings have more regulation wins than Washington and that should be the first tie breaker.  Its bs that teams with fewer wins get can end up with the edge in the standings.

I have a good feeling about the Wings tonight.

OlderThanChelios

After the emotion of the last two games, I'm guessing the Wings come out more fired up than the Habs. If they can get a couple of goals early, the Montreal fans may end up turning on their team because of the frustration about how this whole season has gone.

So there it is. The Wigs score early and often. And the Montreal fans rain boos down on their team. Sounds reasonable, right? :-)
