Both the Wings and Tigers have players working their way through the minors that excite the fans. The Red Wings' prospects – like Evgeny Svechnikov, Filip Hronek and Michael Rasmussen – are a lot closer to making an impact on the big club than the Tigers' top prospects – like Matt Manning, Beau Burrows and Alex Faedo.

This is not a prediction as to which team is going to win next because none of us have any idea. This is more of an observation as to which process is more intriguing and which one provides the greater hope to a somber fan base....

The Red Wings are excited about Dylan Larkin, Anthony Mantha and some of the players coming up through the system. But along with depth, they need a star and unless they draft in the top three or strike it rich in free agency, it’s hard to see where that’s coming from.
