How long Zadina stays will depend on how he performs and how long Mantha is out. Blashill had no further update on that following the game.
Zadina made a favorable first impression, on a night when his team struggled for offense, limited to eight shots in the final two periods in losing its sixth consecutive game (0-4-2). It was Zadina’s third game in three nights after arriving in Grand Rapids early in the morning following a sleepless bus ride back from Milwaukee.
“It wasn’t that bad, actually,” Zadina said. “I thought it was going to be worse, but I felt OK.”
Zadina, who received a nine-game audition last season, made his season debut and did just as much as his older teammates: Very little. He had one shot on goal and two turnovers on a night when the Wings had six more giveaways than shots at Hurricanes goalie James Reimer....
"I thought Z played well," Wings coach Jeff Blashill said. "He came in and didn't look out of place. His first period was very good. Then he played like the rest of the team and didn't generate as much after that."
