Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y. Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation. There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that.
why can't they have a mic to pick up the questions...
goals went from 26th to 13th (place) but it's about team defense and keeping it out of your net going forward....
2x 18 goal scorers on our 4th line and defense first is not their foray, but I give them credit that it became their DNA when they cared about winning.
Lucas Raymond still a minus player...growth in the group.
Build around defensive DNA (going forward). Full trust in Steve going forward.
When teams are not good, players tend to be a minus. Jack Hughes was a minus this season.
Yzerman when asked about Kane, brought up all the UFA's, said Patrick was great for the team, brought some swagger to the team. He said Kane was a bit guarded with his answers yesterday. Basically they will see where it goes.
On long term deals for Mo and Razor, terms and dollars will be key but he has numbers in mind for both short and long term deals for both of them.
Strongly consider Ghost, eh?
Why not? 54 points is nothing to sneeze about. If he was also good defensively, he would be making $8 mil per year, not $4
I disagree he was good defensively. Decent, yes. The only reason his possession metrics looks good is because he had 56 points.
He did better paired with Maata..
You misunderstood what I said:) Gost is not good defensively. IF he was, he would be making $8 mil, not $4
Gotcha. Sorry about that
I dont recall saying anything negative there. Just an observation like Pauls, only shorter.
On Gostisbehere, wants to figure something out for him, may mean carrying 8 dmen.
They can carry 8 dmen but those extra 2 can't be chewing up so much salary.
From his point of view, he is happy with Lalonde. A lot of positives but again brings up the Wings have to be better defensively.
I wonder if Boughner will be the fall guy.
No. Both Lalonde and Yzerman made a point to mention that doesn't fall exclusively on d-core and that the forwards have to be better defensively.
On Seider, tremendous young player, facing top players every night. Said as the Wings improve, his offensive side will get better.
As will Edvinsson's. You could see him getting more comfortable with it each game and he has a better offensive skill set than Seider. Good times ahead.
On Perron, can handle the pressure, real positive impact on the team, will give him strong consideration to bring him back.
On Cossa, a positive year but can't answer the question of him being ready for the NHL. Still has some work to do.
Traverse City will be only Dallas and the Wings, they will play 2 games.
That is a major bummer. That tournament was always awesome to go see.
The press conference is complete and archived. Watch at your leisure.
I would love to see a Kasper or Danielson, but we may not. Yuck...
Not going to see Danielson...no where near ready. Hasn't played pro to this point yet.
Kasper--may see him as a late season call up, but I doubt he plays more than a couple games at most.
Danielson is not ready. I do not agree that he is "no where ready." He outplayed all other prospects in the pre-season. He has exceeded expectations in the WHL.
The most interesting for me was when Lalonde said he was pushing for more young GR players, but SY is too patient. SY did not like it:)
Great that Lalonde spoke up... good for him.
This organ-I-zation has long left prospects to rot on the vine in the minors much longer than other GMs who have not been shy about playing the 'kids' at 19-20 when needed.
