From these comments, sounds like term disagreement between Kane's camp and SY could cause him to look elsewhere. Hope not. Right now, this is just Elliotte speculating.

Friedman talked with Kane on Saturday when the Wings were in Toronto, said Kane was very upbeat regarding the Wings.  Then he watched Kane yesterday and he got a completely different vibe.

I said this in another post, I would give Kane term. He has always shown that he puts in the conditioning work. So, he will either play out the term or (and we hope not for his sake) the hip or other injuries turn up. If so, theres LTIR. I would not be hesitant on term with him.

I really don't want to see anything longer than 3 years. If Yzerman and Lidstrom can do short terms at the end of their careers, why not Kane. Although I also hate NMCs, Kane can have that too.

Yes, he can probably get more on the open market. 

I have a feeling that now that Kane knows he's healthy, he's going to price himself out of the Yzerman's salary structure. If they want to build a real competitor, he needs cap space to improve the team. Seider is looking at $8.5M+ and Raymond's price has risen. I know they are RFA's but they aren't going to play for scraps and I don't think a bridge deal is going to be the approach (although I thought so with Raymond until his late season push).

If the Wings don't sign Kane that leaves a big offensive hole in the line up. If he's not replaced (either thru trade or UFA signing) the Wings will tread water at best. Maybe they'll make the playoffs, maybe they won't.
