Season series: The Detroit Red Wings and Carolina Hurricanes will play twice in the next five days. Tomas Tatar had two goals, and Pavel Dastyuk had a goal and an assist in a 3-1 Red Wings win against the Hurricanes on Dec. 7.

Hurricanes team scope: Carolina lost 4-3 to the Buffalo Sabres on Monday to fall to 13-21-5 on the road. "We have to learn from tonight," coach Bill Peters said. "Tonight wasn't a good enough effort on the road to win in the National Hockey League." Carolina has lost four straight road games. Peters didn't say whether Ward, who made 21 saves and has started three of the past four games, will start. If not, backup Anton Khudobin will be in goal. Khudobin has lost his past six starts (0-3-3), including last Thursday against the Florida Panthers when he allowed six goals on 28 shots in a 6-1 loss. Forward Eric Staal has two goals and four points in the past four games.

Red Wings team scope: Detroit could clinch a berth in the Stanley Cup Playoffs with a win and an Ottawa Senators loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins in regulation on Tuesday. The Red Wings recalled forward Landon Ferraro from Grand Rapids of the American Hockey League on Monday. Ferraro, who has 27 goals in 70 games in the AHL this season, could replace Justin Abdelkader in the lineup. Abdelkader did not play in a 2-1 loss to the Washington Capitals on Sunday after sustaining an upper-body injury blocking a shot Saturday against the Minnesota Wild. General manager Ken Holland said Abdelkader is likely out but could return before the regular season ends, according to MLive.com. Datsyuk, who played Sunday but has been dealing with a lower-body injury, will be a game-time decision.

All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that.
