Detroit's All-Decade Team

11/27/2019 at 8:53am EST

Max Bultman of The Athletic picks the all-decade team for the Detroit Red Wings.

One of the bench players is...

Jonathan Ericsson, D

Maybe an unexpected one considering the events of this season, when Ericsson was waived and sent to the AHL, but think about the overall résumé here. No, he’s never been a scorer. Yes, he’s faded in his late years. But this is an All-Decade team, and Ericsson, who was once the last pick in the draft, played for the Red Wings all decade. And most of the time, it was in a prominent role. If you’re quibbling with this one, it’s probably on behalf of Brian Rafalski on Lidstrom-like grounds, considering Rafalski’s strong individual season in 2010-11. But in this case, Ericsson’s longevity has to win out.

the rest of the team (paid) and the other dmen are... Krnwall, Lidstrom and DeKeyser also on the bench...

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y. Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation. There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that.
