Team Stats

Detroit goals are below.

Chet

from LB: ovechkin -2 tonight, which isn't really so bad in a 5 goal loss, but...he's washed, right?

This game reminds me of the good old days.😄

rwbillbigfrog

It does. I was saying earlier I havent looked forward to watching the games this much in a long time.

Ill mention this again, probably sooner than later, but looking back last summer, there was a time when it was thought that Yzermans roster moves were over, and then he pulled off debrincat. And then he pulled off Kane.

I can't help but wonder if SY was aiming to reunite 93 and 88 all along..... He is already the leader in the clubhouse for GM of the year.

Since they've concentrated on better defense they are awesome.  This is the first year since 2014-2015 where the Wings are positive in goal differential, and they were only +14 then (+27 now)!

i'll readily admit that early on, and in december when they were slumping HARD, i thought the front office and coaching needed some adjustments and wasn't making good decisions. i was very negative and kept saying i hope i'm wrong.

so, they bring in kane, they start using lyon, and look now. a WAGON. roles are figured out. guys are stepping up. the team is healthy. ottawa is crying.

let's hope they make the playoffs, and make serious noise. this is the best they could've asked for, so far. has to be fun being a player and in management; certainly fun being a fan.

The Wings steam rolled Washington in another Lyon's Victory!!!

My wife and I were just laughing because it was goal after goal.  Wings dominated every aspect of the game. Right on!

Go Wings!

Paul

from Bailey Johnson of the Washington Post,

The Detroit Red Wings, who are starting to emerge from years of rebuilding as they strive toward their first playoff berth since 2016, dispatched the much slower Capitals, rolling to an 8-3 win that appeared inevitable after the first few shifts. Washington never had the legs to keep up with the Red Wings, and Detroits high-octane offense took advantage of every chance it got.

They jumped on us right away, and we didnt do a good enough job at controlling pucks early in the game, Capitals winger Tom Wilson said. They built momentum and kind of just carried it from there on in....

We needed to simplify early, and we didnt, Wilson said. That gave them rush offense, and theyve got skilled players that can make things happen. They were jumping. They were playing high-octane offense, and we werent doing a good enough job defending. We just werent good enough in our [defensive] zone, we werent good enough in the neutral zone, and we didnt get enough [offensive] zone time to make them pay....

I thought right from the start, you could see the talent through their lineup and through their roster in the plays that they make, Capitals Coach Spencer Carbery said. And, obviously, the finish that they have was on full display.
