Bad Contracts From The Detroit Sports Scene

02/04/2019 at 8:43am EST

Anthony Fenech, Vince Ellis, Helene St. James and Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press listed the bad sports contracts in Detroit,

Here's a snapshot of each team's less-than-desirable contracts:

F Justin Abdelkader

Age: 31.

Contract: Signed for seven years, $29.75 million ($4.25 million cap hit) in November 2015.

The word: Played on a line with Pavel Datsyuk at the time, and scored 23 goals in 2014-15. Abdelkader has not been as productive since Datsyuk left in 2016, with 25 goals and 44 assists in 192 games. Abdelkader is also not as physical as he used to be. The four years left on the contract renders it unmovable.

DeKeyser and Ericsson are also made the list.

About Abel to Yzerman

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y. Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation. There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that.
